When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
Anyone else getting the strangest case of déjà vu? I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I was so gripped by the phenomenon until Friday’s episode at which point Nick (Joshua Morrow) helpfully reminded me that the Nick/Sally/Adam ‘Who’s The Daddy’ plot was merely a reworking of the old Nick/Sage/Adam ‘Who’s The Daddy’ saga — G-d wasn’t that interminable?
Equally disconcerting was a scene from that very same episode that saw Elena (Brytni Sarpy) stomp her foot and pout because Nate (Sean Dominic) wouldn’t take off work to vacation with her, not the least of which was owing to the fact that I remembered a time, not too long ago when…Elena stomped her foot and pouted because Nate wouldn’t take off work to join her on a working holiday.
And let’s be honest with one another here, Jack (Peter Bergman) and Diane (Susan Walters), and Tucker (Trevor St. John) and Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) respective storylines are following the same familiar beats — a rogue with obvious self-serving objectives worm their way into the heart and bed of a smitten partner — the much-derided Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Ashland coupling.
Also, tell me you’ve never seen Adam (Mark Grossman) gunning for his sister’s position at the family company, and I’ll prove to you that you’re a Young and the Restless neophyte of the highest order.
With February Sweeps upon them — not to mention the rapidly approaching 50th anniversary — you’d think that the writing team would at least be attempting to bring something original to the table rather than dishing up unappealing retreads of already unappreciated fare.
* Is it just me or should Young and the Restless just cut their losses where Kyle (Michael Mealor) and Summer (Allison Lanier) are concerned?
* Oh, wow, Jack and Diane’s transparent plan to frame Jeremy (James Hyde) for theft didn’t pan out. What. A. Shock!
In case you can’t recognize sarcasm….sarcasm.
* So, rather than position Heather (Vail Bloom) as a real impediment for the inevitable Daniel/Lily reunion, she was brought back to, in essence, concede defeat and go on her merry way? Yea, that tracks when one considers the allergy that Josh Griffith has to actual soapy goodness.
