A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Doubling Down & Another Round

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Offers HIS Take

I can see that Josh Griffith is doubling down on “Bad Billy” (Jason Thompson), and I’m as impressed with this redux as I am yet another round of Victoria (Amelia Heinle) vs. Victor (Eric Braeden) — which, is to say, not impressed in the slightest.

And though the new transition effects are as spiffy as all get out, it doesn’t really behoove The Young and the Restless to rely so heavily on recent flashbacks. While a visual accompaniment to a memory of long ago is always welcome — and honestly, no one does it better than Y&R — I don’t need to be reminded of scenes that transpired a few months since, or a week ago, and certainly not minutes earlier.

Further Y&R Musings

* It is so blatantly obvious that Mamie (Veronica Redd) is the one who purchased Victor’s stake in Chancellors-Winters that I’m not sure why the soap is even bothering to play it as a mystery — unless they actually plan to duck instead of weave. Anything’s possible, I suppose.

* It was a shame seeing Audra (Zuleyka Silver) cruelly cut bed buddy Kyle (Michael Mealor) loose, but I’m assuming it was necessary to jump-start the inevitable Kyle/Summer/Chance triangle as Sharon (Sharon Case) is clearly prioritizing and her maybe romance with the hunky detective isn’t anywhere close to uppermost in her mind.

* Not that I’m convinced that JG actually knows himself, but I’m going to need someone to elucidate, once and for all, whether or not Diane has an agenda all her own. It seems her characterization changes depending on which way the wind is blowing, so clarity would be much appreciated.

* So…Adam (Mark Grossman) lays a smooch on Sally (Courtney Hope) and we just ignore the development for four consecutive episodes? That’s just gross, man.
