Like many daytime dramas, the Young and the Restless often includes a Christmas miracle around the holidays. Some years, it’s something miraculous that happens to somebody. Other times, a character gets their own episode and rediscovers something about themselves or has a significant change of heart. In honor of Christmas 2021, we put together some of the best Christmas miracles ever in Genoa City.
Young and the Restless Best Christmas Miracles
In the mid-1980s, teenage rockstar Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) lost his voice after Shawn Garrett poisoned him. However, he became that season’s Christmas miracle in Genoa City. On Christmas Eve during church, Danny regained his ability to sing.
The new millennium brought Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) his own Christmas miracle. Sadly, Baldwin wished he had never been born. When that happened, he received the It’s a Wonderful Life treatment. Michael got a glimpse of a Genoa City sans himself, and it looked bleak. Afterward, Michael felt thankful for all the beautiful things he had.
While it’s not a traditional miracle, in a daytime landscape where Christmas remains the predominant December holiday celebrated, 2006 included an additional holiday representation. Indeed, it seemed miraculous when Brad Carlton (Don Diamont) celebrated Hanukkah with his mother, Rebecca Kaplan (Lorna Raver). Even Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) and Abby Newman-Abbott (then Darcy Rose Byrnes) joined them in the celebration.
Elsewhere on The Young and the Restless in 2006, the Newman family had a miracle in the form of a new baby girl for Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford). Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) even helped deliver the little girl who ended up with the name Summer by the end of Christmas Day.
Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) received her very own Christmas miracle in 2011. An addict, Nikki lost control, becoming incredibly drunk, and she wrecked her car on the way to Victoria Newman and Billy Abbott’s wedding. Then, in a story straight out of Charles Dickens, Nikki’s guardian angel showed up to let her know just how much her family truly needed her. That Christmas served as a turning point for the Newman matriarch.
Later, 2017 brought a heartwarming (and heart thawing) Christmas moment for a somewhat jaded Hilary Curtis (Mishael Morgan). During an episode of The Hilary Hour, she and Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) read children’s letters to Santa aloud. One letter Hilary read turned out to be her own letter from childhood. Her Sunday school teacher saved it all those years and sent it in. The moment softened Hilary a bit, and she ended up giving Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) a gift.
This year, Nick is the character who gets his own episode, and it will hopefully help him find a new purpose and direction in his life as he goes into the new year.
