When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review
It’s always a treat when characters speak for the audience. Yes, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) – you are the type who needs issues and problems in a romantic relationship to think that it’s working; you do need drama and fights – in fact, you seek them out; hello Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope)!
And yes, Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle) is a grown woman capable of making her decisions and fighting her own battles. Fair point, well made Phyllis.
Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart) deserves several kudos for his attempt to remind foaming at the mouth Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) that she – and indeed he, Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc), and Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) – had no room to talk about a person’s past.
And when Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) opinioned that he’s once again set himself up for a falling out with the father who so carelessly treats his children, we wanted to raise several hallelujahs.
However, we weren’t so crazy to hear Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) tell Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) that making people disappear isn’t really Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) style. (It’s like they’ve never seen a single episode of The Young and the Restless!)

Sure, Victor may be loathed to kill somebody, but he sure as heck doesn’t mind imprisoning them, psychologically and physically torturing them, bringing back their mentally fragile ex-wives to torment them, and/or replacing them with a near-identical double. Given all that, murder isn’t exactly a big leap.
Further Y&R Musings
* Now that Chance Chancellor is presumed dead, we know that two things will soon be transpiring: Abby Newman Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) will get over him, by getting under someone else – most likely Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), who’s she’s already becoming overly attached too/dependent upon – and Chance will miraculously reappear – and the most inopportune of moments – sporting a new face; The Young and the Restless knew what it was doing when it scripted the scenario of Chance’s dwelling being destroyed by fire.
What remains to be seen, is if Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) will use the opportunity provided her, and fight for legal custody of Dominic.
* Should recovering drug and alcohol addict Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) be sipping Prosecco?
