A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Man Pain Anonymous

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Another holiday, another special episode…and this one, much like the ones featuring Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) before it, was all about man pain.

Exactly how many times did Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) need to be praised, before he just finally accepted that he was an all-around fantastic guy and the ultimate father? The actual answer: a lot, a whole lot; The Young and the Restless even trotted out poor, dead Cassie Newman (Camryn Grimes) to hammer home the narrative.

In all honesty, the whole exercise was one of excess, considering that Nick only last week received the ultimate compliment – Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) thinks that he’s aces when it comes to parenting. How could Nicholas have wanted/needed more than that?

Further Y&R Musing

* Beth Maitland (Traci), you were truly a sight for sore eyes.

* Finally, someone – and I’m so glad that it was Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) – had the nerve to tell Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) that that dang wedding dress she designed was très blasé. Move on girl. Also, your great auntie called, and she’s got disguise tips for you.

* Oh yay, Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) has been upgraded from “sleepy” to “housemate.” It’s an embarrassment of storyline riches, and The Young and the Restless really shouldn’t have.

* Okay, Y&R…are you actually going to have Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) petition the court for sole custody of Dominic, or are you going to imply, imply, imply, build to it, build to it, build to it, and then drop the storyline completely or, reverse course, and simply have Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) agree to have his baby because she loves him that much and because it will make him happy? Because that is working out so well for Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes).

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
