When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

Soooooo, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) has found God (please excuse me while I join Laura Collins [Genie Francis] in an unrestrained belly laugh), and has been downgraded from big bad to not very nice fellow…have I got that right? What gives General Hospital?

I can see the appeal of the Cyrus character, and I love me some Jeff Kober. But why fob off his crime(s?) onto Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy)? Whether this redemption through religion claim has merit, Cyrus is always going to be the man who ordered Julian Jerome to leave a bomb at The Floating Rib, which resulted in Lulu Falconeri’s coma; and it’s keeping with his petulant character to put out a hit on his siblings in the aftermath of being bested.

And can someone please explain Victor’s master plan to me, pretty please? I know I heard him tell Deputy Mayor Ashby that he’d sent the gun-for-hire after Laura and Martin Grey (Michael E. Knight) to flush Laura out…but what would he have done if the murders had been carried out? Did Victor purposefully hire an incompetent he was sure would be caught? Seems needlessly risky, no?

Further GH Musings

* It’s been a good few years since General Hospital let little things like common sense, continuity, or real-life rules dictate a storyline, but surely even these writers can see the folly in having Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) do a stretch in the same white-collar prison that his girlfriend works.

* It’s also been many a moon since we’ve seen Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) in lawyer mode, but darn it if he hasn’t lost his mojo one little bit. He practically had that Llantano D.A. eating out of the palm of his hand. Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros), you picked a better defender.

* Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) and Martin? Yes, please! It sure does beat her pitifully pinning after “Doc” all these years later.

* Was I the only one who found Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) reunion lacking? Maybe I’m salty over the fact that Drew sought out Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) – who almost had him shot – and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) – who dropped him like a hot potato once “Real Jason” came back into her life – and merely caught up with Liz because they ran into each other at Kelly’s.
