A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Deceptions All Around

 Comments

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Okay, we gotta discuss those looks and that reaction that came courtesy of Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle). Was she displeased with the idea of a Locke tower being erected next to the Newman one because it made her dread Ashland Locke’s (Richard Burgi) cancer treatments failing and him dying before seeing the project completed?

Or, was she starting to dread that fact that the cancer treatments might be an unqualified success, that they will extend Ashland’s life for years to come, and that she’ll have to share the bounty?

We’ve wondered for weeks now that Ashland is the predator and Victoria his prey…but is it possible that it’s the other way around? Might Victoria be using Ashland for all she can get out of him, with the hope he won’t live long enough to realize the truth?

And what of this mystery woman from Ashland’s past? What untoward secrets will be uncovered? Here’s hoping The Young and the Restless has a few surprises up its sleeve where this story is concerned…

Because they certainly didn’t when it came to the ‘Who Kidnapped Mariah’ caper. They made it obvious from the jump that it was Benjamin “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan) – so obvious, in fact, that we kept waiting for the surprise twist that he was innocent all the time. But no. Appearances, in the case, were far from deceiving.

Further Y&R Musings

* Which was the more eye-roll-inducing moment: Abby announcing that Mariah was in labor – as if the laboring woman had no idea what was going on with her own body – or Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) seriously expecting Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso) to keep him apprised of the goings-on in his investigation?

* We’re all for women supporting one another, and forming deep and abiding friendships, but is Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) really so desperate for companionship that she’ll play nice with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) – the woman who carried on an affair with Devon despite knowing he and Amanda were courting?

* Where does Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) get all her fortitude and wherewithal to deal with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson)? And speaking of the couple…are we alone in thinking that this romance is soon to implode?
