General Hospital’s Cameron Webber deals with a lot of his stress — supporting his mother Elizabeth, going to college, dealing with a sex video scandal! Off-screen, Cameron’s portrayer, William Lipton, stays fit to so he can handle his roles as an actor and college student.
The Daytime Emmy-nominated actor/singer recently chatted with Soap Hub about wellness. Read on as Lipton weighs in on a variety of topics including scheduling fitness, meditation, diet/nutrition, and much more!
Soap Hub: How do you schedule fitness into your life?
William Lipton: Obviously fitness schedules look very different from person to person. In my personal experience, I have either worked out in early morning settings before my day begins or late afternoon after I am done with classes.
Soap Hub: What’s a typical fitness regime?
William Lipton: It has changed over the years. I used to work with a trainer focusing more on mobility and healthy lifting practices. My primary source of exercise then evolved into boxing, which was a great source of strength building and cardio. I plan on continuing that once I get back home for summer break. As of late, running and simple weight training has been my primary source at school.
Soap Hub: Do you have a “cheat” day? Do you believe in them?
William Lipton: I feel that my diet and routine are more loose and simply rely on reasonable health practices. I don’t follow a rigid diet as long as I try to eat consistent nutritious meals throughout the day.
Soap Hub: What’s one thing that you’d like to work on – more water? Shut off the cell phone after a certain hour?
William Lipton: I think something I would like to work on is better sleep practices. It is easy in the craziness of life to sacrifice good quality sleep for whatever occurrences may be going on in life. For me, the days I get to bed early and wake up early full of energy are those I treasure most. I would really like to include that more throughout my school year.
Soap Hub: Do you meditate?
William Lipton: I’ve actually just been instructed by a valued teacher to introduce simple meditation and breathwork into my daily routine!
Soap Hub: Have you always been active?
William Lipton: I think throughout my life, staying active has looked different in different parts. However, there has always been some form of physical activity in my life.
Soap Hub: Did you change your exercise regime during COVID? What positives may have come out of learning to do things differently?
William Lipton: My regime changed heavily during covid. With an abundance of time over covid summer, I started doing a lot of long-distance running, an activity that previously would be too time-consuming for my rigorous school and work schedule. It was really cool to start that journey and track the progress I made in terms of timed runs and distance runs!
Soap Hub: Everyone is different and has different needs but do you have any advice for those who are looking to work on their wellness?
William Lipton: I think in modern times there are many different avenues to achieve a desired state of wellness. I think oftentimes though what is overlooked is mental wellness. Physical and mental health are so intertwined and attention to both is crucial to overall wellness. Quality sleep, food, as well as resources for when times are tough, I feel are important pillars to base any health journey on.
