Jeff Kober plays General Hospital’s menacing Cyrus Renault, and the character, in his last appearance, appears to have found religion as a way to deal with his anger. Off-screen, the actor has authored a book that he hopes will help readers deal with their own stress and challenges. Find out more about it in this week’s installment of Wellness Wednesday.
Jeff Kober on Embracing Bliss
In a recent Soap Hub Fireside Chat, Kober shared that he’s penned Embracing Bliss, a tome described as “a collection of writings designed to uplift the reader and to redirect them toward a more life-affirming perspective.”
Benefits Of Embracing Bliss
“For the last 11 years or so, I’ve sent out daily meditations or thought if you’re having a less than blissful experience in life, there’s a way to move in the direction of a blissful experience of life,” Jeff Kober shared. “Mediation is absolutely essential in my experience for that. Also, you’ve got to change the way you’re thinking up here [in your mind] because what you’re paying attention to grows. The book is about [saying to yourself], ‘Okay, I know you’re worried about something today but look at [it] this [way] for just a moment…There’s a saying, ‘Be kind — for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle.’
“You can move in the direction of becoming the person you want to be,” continues Kober, who last year scored a Daytime Emmy nomination for his role as Cyrus. “All of us want to love and be loved. Because the world is so challenging, we end up being angry and frightened all of the time.” Kober recalls someone acknowledging his fear but suggesting to him that he look at things in a different way. “That was really helpful in helping me change my view of the world.”
Jeff Kober’s China Beach Pal Endorses Embracing Bliss
Embracing Bliss has already received an endorsement from the actor’s former China Beach co-star Dana Delany, known to daytime fans from her run as Hayley Hollister on As the World Turns. “Having known Jeff Kober for over thirty years, I have seen him evolve from a troubled seeker to a joyous teacher,” Delany writes in a review. “He is my meditation teacher. Always present, he guides—with raucous laughter, humility and love. Pick any page of these 108 meditations, and you will find something you needed just at that moment. As Jeff says, ‘It’s the subtle tug of charm.’ Embrace the natural magic.”
