Winsor Harmon reprised his role as Thorne Forrester for the 35th anniversary of The Bold and the Beautiful. Soap Hub chatted with the actor not only about reprising his role as Eric and the late Stephanie’s firstborn but also checked in with the actor about wellness.
The B&B veteran, who joined the CBS soap in 1996 as Thorne Forrester, is the featured actor in Soap Hub’s latest Wellness Wednesday feature. Harmon shared how his workouts vary throughout the year, the importance of sleep, listening to your body, and getting started early each day!
Soap Hub: What’s a typical fitness regime for you?
Winsor Harmon: It varies on what time of year it is. In the summer, I’ll do a lot of outdoor cycling and swimming in the pool. In the winter, it’s indoor activities. I’m an endurance athlete. I don’t do strength [training] anymore. I get through the stations and do a lot of cable work where it’s high reps. I’m very attuned with the heart now, getting [my heart rate] up and bringing it down. It’s interval training. It’s about getting the body back to recovery. Also, I’m working with my son, who has decided to run track.
Soap Hub: What role does diet play in staying fit?
Winsor Harmon: It’s all in the diet. I really think that food is the medicine of the future. I’m strictly paleo — all organic, fruits, vegetables. I don’t eat a lot of meat anymore, but I do enjoy a good steak on occasion.
Soap Hub: Is there something you’re focusing more on this year?
Winsor Harmon: To be honest, more resting. I go to bed early, and I’m asleep by 8 p.m. I kid you not. I take my vitamins by 7 and by 7:45 I can barely hold my head up. I wake up early every single morning about 2:45 a.m. or 3 a.m. That gives me a few hours to myself before the gym opens. If I could sleep about 9 hours, I would, but 7 is about enough for me.
Soap Hub: What advice, after consulting a doctor, do you have for people looking to get started with a new fitness/wellness regime?
Winsor Harmon: The first advice I’d give is you have to do it. You have to put the shoes by the bed, get up and do it. Do your workouts in the morning. I believe the percentage is very high of staying with [working out] if you get up and do it and get it out of the way. Personally, I use MCT oil. It helps me focus. I pour a little in my coffee. Also, stick with a plan. We’re such creatures of wanting to see results right away. There are so many fads. You won’t see results right away, but when you do that’s the payoff.
