Dr. Elena Dawson calls Genoa City her home, but her portrayer, Brytni Sarpy, is known to take off and see the world! The actress recently revisited a favorite locale which afforded both wonderful memories and an enriching experience both mentally and physically. Sarpy chatted with Soap Hub about her fantastic journey.
Soap Hub: You recently went back to a destination that’s familiar, which you wanted to experience again.
Brytni Sarpy: Yes. Todos Santos, Mexico.
Soap Hub: Did you stick to tourist areas, or did you immerse yourself in the local traditions/cultures?
Brytni Sarpy: I recommend anyone traveling to Mexico to steer clear of the tourist towns and do a little research to explore parts of Mexico that still maintain their unique rich culture and can show you glimpses into their way of life.
Soap Hub: What inspired you to go back there?
Brytni Sarpy: Revisiting Todos Santos, after initially taking my very first solo trip there a year prior, was both nostalgic and still just as intoxicating as it was on my first visit. I was a little worried that it wouldn’t be as magical as my first trip, but it was! I explored a little more, visited more beaches, and hiked bigger hikes. Initially, I visited in the spring, but this [time] I went in fall; the weather was a bit chillier, but the occasional clouds made the sunsets even more beautiful this time around.
Soap Hub: How did the trip make you feel?
Brytni Sarpy: This particular trip, I also had a life-changing experience. I had a private temazcal ceremony where you enter a sweat lodge hut, and a shaman leads [you] in a ritual of purification, cleansing, and reconnecting with yourself and nature. It involves a lot of physical, mental, and emotional purging and somehow, both depletes every ounce of energy in your body and simultaneously restores it with fresh energy and life force. It was an incredible experience — one that I would recommend to anyone [who’s going] on a journey within.
Soap Hub: Do you have any special travel tips? Preferred places to eat?
Brytni Sarpy: When I travel, I typically have certain ‘must-do/must-eat’ items on my list. As long as I can check those off, the rest of the trip, I like to go with the flow.
Soap Hub: What are your thoughts on traveling alone versus going with someone else?
Brytni Sarpy: If you are thinking of traveling alone for the first time, I would encourage you to do it whenever you get a chance because tomorrow isn’t promised, and moments of solitude don’t come easy in our fast-paced lives. Go. Be safe. Explore.
