Carter, played by Lawrence Saint-Victor, has struck out in love many times on The Bold and the Beautiful. While fate and circumstances have played a role in his winding up alone, the one constant in these failed relationships is Carter himself.
The Bold and the Beautiful: Slow Down, Carter
It’s hard to believe that a handsome, successful lawyer, whose body is as rock-solid as his financial portfolio, is having trouble landing a woman but that’s been Carter’s fate for some time. He reached out to ex-love Maya (Karla Mosley) a while ago but she had no interest in rekindling their flame.
Next, Carter swept in on Forrester model Zoe Buckingham (Kiara Barnes) after she got jilted by Thomas Forrester. The two had barely gone out on a few dates when he proposed marriage. Rather than read the signals she was clearly sending him related to being unsure, Carter persisted and then was stunned to learn that Zoe had feelings for Zende Forrester Dominguez (Delon de Metz).
Carter Walton And Quinn Fuller Forrester Make “Quarter”
While figuring out if he and Zoe could make a go of it, Quinn Fuller Forester (Rena Sofer) visited Carter on behalf of her new friend Zoe and tried to soften him towards Zoe. That didn’t work. Carter and Quinn ended up having an affair.
To make matters worse, the duo resumed their affair with Eric’s (John McCook) blessing. While it may have made Eric feel better (did it really?) to know that his wife was getting her needs met, it was sending a message to Carter that you can’t really have what you say you want since Quinn left his apartment to go back to Eric’s mansion.
Recently, Katie Logan (Heather Tom) went to see Carter to blast him for his role in messing things up but the two ended up having a heartfelt talk — which Carter desperately needed to have. Yes, Zoe should have told Carter the truth. And no, Quinn shouldn’t have betrayed her marriage vows. But Carter can’t control their thoughts, actions, and decisions. He can, however, control his own impulses. He should have given Zoe more time to find herself and recover from being Thomas’s pawn. He should have sent Quinn packing once he realized there was a mutual spark. (Of course, The Bold and the Beautiful realized there would be no drama in that!)
A Long Hard Look In The Mirror
Because he didn’t, he’s now alone and feeling pretty lousy. Fortunately, thanks to Katie, he’s also feeling reflective. “After a while, you have to ask yourself what’s wrong with me?” Carter asked. “Why can’t a woman appreciate what I have to offer? A woman who wants to be loved as much as I do — commitment, a family. Is that too much to ask? Maybe my destiny is to be alone.”
Katie, who has her own problems in the romance department thanks to Bill (Don Diamont) not being able to remain faithful to her, gave Carter some input. She said she doesn’t believe in destiny, noting that it’s all luck and that, perhaps, she and Carter were just unlucky in love.
Carter would do well to take Katie’s words to heart and stop being so hard on himself. He’d do well to extricate himself from Quinn and work on himself. Of course, there’s already the basis for the beginnings of something with Katie based on their interaction. Perhaps, it’s just a friendship? Maybe it’s something more? Time will tell.
But before Carter asks Katie out on a date or proposes marriage to her (he’s been known to rush things), he should take a step back and figure out what he really wants in life. (All this said, the chemistry between the actors is certainly there. In time, let’s hope the show capitalizes on it.)
