Film fans continue to wax poetic about Old Hollywood, and their love of the movies has caused many to seek jobs in the industry. A healthy appreciation of what came before can inform one’s work moving forward, whether it’s in front of or behind the camera. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Don Diamont has a great appreciation of what has gone before in the film industry. He recently shared a marvel that had fans eagerly discussing it.
Tinseltown Nostalgia
Diamont shared a selfie on Instagram in a restored trolley car, which is rich with Hollywood charm. Overlaid text states, “Quick Lunch In The Legendary Formosa Cafe Trolley Car.” Diamont wrote, “For those of you who are interested…@theformosa first opened its doors IN LOS ANGELES in 1939, making its new debut in its 80th year. Located across from the then-Samuel Goldwyn studio, stars like Frank Sinatra, Humphrey Bogart, James Dean, and Elvis Presley would pop into the legendary Formosa Cafe regularly for dining and drinks.”
He excitedly explained what patrons used to see there, including, “Ava Gardner dancing past the old, red leather booths, or John Wayne nursing a late-night scotch (he was caught making scrambled eggs in our kitchen one morning, after reportedly passing out in a booth the night before).” He further explained that the trolley car had been restored to its original 1904 glory, “and is confirmed to be the oldest surviving red train car in existence.”
He added that, “Boxes of autographed celebrity photos and storage units of original memorabilia have made their way back into the Cafe.” (Find out what the greatest gift of Diamont’s career is.)
A Hollywood Time Capsule
Behind Diamont are classic red leather booths, dark wood trim, and vintage tables set with red napkins and glassware. The walls are lined with framed black-and-white celebrity photos, honoring the café’s storied past. One fan was glad he shared the café and commented, “What a historic place and a real piece of Hollywood’s Golden Age 😱 OMG if the walls could talk.

Many of his followers expressed an interest in visiting it at some point. One fan who’d been there before appreciated his pic, responding, “Thank you! We always had fun there! Great feeling from your framing…warm color and welcoming! 👏👏❤️🍀😁😁.” And another who was familiar with it enthusiastically commented, “One of my favorite restaurants in LA! The steak salad is 👍🏻.” (Get a look behind-the-scenes at Diamont’s 40th anniversary bash.)
