Brooke Logan Forrester is in danger of losing the love of her life and this time it could be for keeps. For displaying angst, regret, and fear, Soap Hub is bestowing upon Katherine Kelly Lang, who plays Brooke on The Bold and the Beautiful, Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week for B&B honors.
Katherine Kelly Lang – Performer of the Week
Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) made her share of mistakes over the years. She fell for her son-in-law Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) years ago, which resulted in the birth of Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle). And then, there was the time that she accidentally had sex with her daughter Hope’s boyfriend Oliver Jones (Zack Conroy) thinking he was Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye). But this time, she may have crossed a line that’s unforgivable. It wasn’t so much that she kissed Deacon and slept overnight with him but she lied about it for weeks. And for weeks before that, she silently sided with Deacon all under the guise of wanting Hope to have a future with her dad — despite Ridge admonishing that Deacon’s presence would lead to no good.
First, we saw Brooke stand up to Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen), who showed up in her home, prepared to both offer support and let Brooke know that she’d made a big mistake — something Brooke already knows. Brooke said that she and Ridge would be fine and would work through things, but Lang played Brooke quivering on the inside. She wasn’t going to show any weakness in front of Taylor but we couldn’t help but see that this time Brooke wasn’t so sure. Brooke’s unnerved that she started drinking again. She truly doesn’t know what triggered the event (the audience knows that Sheila Carter, played by Kimberlin Brown, spiked her ‘non-alcoholic’ drink but Brooke hasn’t figured that out — yet!)
This underlying issue with Brooke has prompted Katherine Kelly Lang to play her character as someone whose confidence has been tested. She’s shaken and unsure why she started drinking — might she do it again? Things got worse after Brooke raced to Il Giardino to find Deacon on the floor, having suffered an attack from Ridge. She made a big mistake by showing concern for the bruised bartender. Ridge called her out on her defense of Deacon and chided her for not telling him the truth.
Brooke was stunned when Ridge turned on her in the Il Giardino supply closet. Previously, Ridge had professed his love for Brooke calling her “his Logan.” Lang played Brooke incredulous that now, Ridge was singing a very different song. “I just want you to forgive me,” said Brooke as a single tear strolled down her left cheek as it had so many times in the past.
No matter how much Brooke implored Ridge to forgive her, he couldn’t get past his belief that Brooke chose Deacon over her. “I can’t do this anymore,” Ridge said. Brooke begged him not to leave but he did.
Next, Katherine Kelly Lang’s Brooke went from feeling devastated to helpless after Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) physically prevented her from getting to his father. Brooke hasn’t been a fan of Thomas’s ever since he manipulated Hope. Despite her protests, Thomas firmly refused to let Brooke get past him using his words, physical presence, and sarcasm (he asked if she was going to push him off a cliff again!) to keep Brooke at bay. But Thomas’s stance just fueled Brooke’s commitment to reuniting with Ridge. A blocked Brooke returned to Hope and Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) for support unaware that Ridge has asked Taylor if he can come home — and that news is sure to send Brooke into a tailspin, which will give Lang even more opportunities to show us what she’s capable of doing.
