The Bold and the Beautiful has been slowly building up towards a custody battle between Douglas Forrester’s parents, Thomas Forrester and Hope Logan Spencer. The tale stands to ripple into many relationships on the show, and that’s just one of the many reasons that it’s already proving to be the storyline B&B needs!
Douglas (Django Ferri) is just the right age for this story. He’s young enough to know what’s going on, and his portrayer can handle the emotionally-packed scenes that are sure to be coming his way. While Douglas may feel torn by what’s coming ahead, he’s certainly not going to feel like he’s not wanted!
B&B hasn’t been a particularly violent show over the decades. Sure, Thorne Forrester shot Ridge Forrester once after he found out that he’d bedded his wife, Caroline Spencer Forrester (Joanna Johnson). Years ago, Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) shot both Taylor Hayes and Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang). However, the show’s primary focus has been on interpersonal relationships set against the glorious world of fashion.
Lately, B&B had violence with both Dr. John ‘Finn’ Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) and his wife Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) eating lead courtesy of Sheila. Finn’s mother, Dr. Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda), was in a fiery car accident — also thanks to Sheila! All three survived, and now, we imagine this brewing story with Douglas won’t involve any violence. Instead of police stations and hospitals, we envision the drama will take place in living rooms and courthouses.
Douglas’s custody stands to affect not just Douglas, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), and Hope (Annika Noelle) but everyone else on the canvas. How will Brooke and Ridge Forrester’s (Thorsten Kaye) tenuous reunion withstand her daughter and his son being at odds? For now, Douglas is living in the Forrester mansion, so that means we’re likely to see his great-grandfather Eric Forrester (John McCook). Now that Eric’s back with Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis), Douglas’s great maternal aunt, Eric and Donna may also find themselves at odds.
Might Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor), Forrester’s Chief Operating Officer and a fine attorney, be asked to represent either Hope or Thomas in a custody battle? Both of them have ties to Forrester, so there’d be a conflict either way. And as conflict is the name of the game in soap operas, the fight for Douglas is going to ensure big drama for all involved!
