Hope Logan Spencer is one of those rare The Bold and the Beautiful characters who are often seen, even when she doesn’t have a storyline, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need one.
While characters like Bill Spencer (Don Diamont), Katie Logan (Heather Tom), and Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) often disappear for months at a time, Hope is always around to gossip about the latest goings-on within her inner circle, listen to her mother’s problems, and dole out advice wherever she can whether it’s warranted or not, but it’s been way too long since she had a story of her own.
It looked as if Hope was going to have a compelling Bold and the Beautiful story late last year when her father returned to LA after a stint in prison and wanted to forge a relationship with her. It’s something Hope wanted, as well, and while there was some conflict for a few episodes with Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) over Hope getting to know Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), the story became much more about Brooke and Deacon’s old feelings for one another than it did about Hope and the father she barely knew.
Before that, Hope had a few weeks of worrying about Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) behind bars when he thought he killed Vinny Walker (Joe LoCicero), but that story was more about Liam than Hope. When Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) lost his mind and he took a Hope mannequin home from Forrester Creations to date, that story was also much more about Thomas and his brain injury than it was about Hope. (Though the storyline did give Noelle the opportunity to flex her acting muscles when voicing the Hope mannequin.)
The last Bold and the Beautiful story Hope had that seemed to be more about her than others was when she believed her baby had died at birth, causing a depression that led her to divorce Liam, and marry Thomas just so she could be a mother to his young son, Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri). In the end, Hope got to be Douglas’ mother via adoption and she also got her baby back when Douglas discovered Beth was Phoebe and Phoebe was Beth.
And even that story was as much about Steffy Forrester as it was about Hope as she inadvertently adopted Hope’s baby. That was in 2019. It is now 2022, making it three years since Hope has had a big story of her own that didn’t end up fizzling fast or centering on someone else before you could blink. Will this be the year it finally happens?
