Is Young and the Restless Trying To Make Us Root For Ashland Locke?

Everything The Young and the Restless says suggests that they want us to hate and definitely root against Ashland Locke. Yet what they do kind of suggests the opposite.

Young and the Restless: Fire Sale

First, they took all of Ashland’s (Robert Newman) money away from him. We still think Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) did it illegally and he has a great case to take to court, but Ashland seems to be taking the high road on that one.

Fair enough, Ashland tried to take Victoria’s company away from her, so she took his. Turnabout is fair play, we get that.

Young & Restless: Innocent Victim

But the situation where Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) got a court order to keep him away from Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez) is just cruel. And petty.

On the one hand, we have Ashland, sitting with the boy he raised, telling Harrison how much he loves him, but how happy he is that Harrison is living with people who love him, too, including Grandpa Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), Grandma Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), stepmom Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) – and his “Daddy” Kyle.

On the other hand, Kyle and Summer are lounging by the pool (this is the kind of hard work that made them both executives while still in their 20s!), chatting with Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) about how they deserve a second chance, and Kyle and Summer’s moms – not to mention Billy’s mom – deserve second chances, but not Ashland, never Ashland.

Young and the Restless: Fate Worse Than Death

And now Ashland is off to prison, where he has to listen to Victor Newman’s (Eric Braeden) bug-eyed threats about how he will expose Ashland’s crime – which is the exact same crime, faking a terminal illness, which Victor’s beloved wife once committed. But, don’t worry, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) got her second chance.

Hypocritical much, show? Almost makes us wonder if this is all a clever way of getting us to root for Ashland to take them all down!
