Sheila Carter may have gotten a ‘Get Out of Jail Free’ card thanks to Bill but her son, Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), is a long way from wanting her in his life on The Bold and the Beautiful. For his performance as a man, determined to protect his family, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for B&B honors upon Novlan.
You’ve got to hand it to Sheila (Kimberlin Brown). She thought she could have a friendly conversation with Finn (Tanner Novlan) at Deacon’s restaurant (formerly Il Giardino) after he plopped himself down in a seat opposite her.
We see characters on soaps change their minds all the time before motivations become clear (Hi, Bill!) but Finn isn’t budging on how he feels about Sheila. He couldn’t help but lull her into a false sense of hope when he said he’d be glad to see her someday — after she was behind bars!
Sheila was taken off guard but viewers weren’t as Novlan brought strength and intensity to the scenes. Finn made it clear to Sheila that he didn’t run into her by accident; he purposely came to the eatery once he knew she was there to tell her she’d never get the chance to interact with his family — ever!
Sheila calmly tried to convince her son they’d been given another chance thanks to Bill but Finn wasn’t budging. While Finn refrained from lunging across the table and attacking Sheila, he nonetheless conveyed the rage and anger that he felt over his birth mother being allowed to roam the streets of Los Angeles despite her many crimes.
Sheila quietly but forcefully pushed back, letting her son know that never gives up. She make it clear that with persistence she can get what she wants. Finn subtly shook his head no as Sheila made her proclamation. We know Sheila to be very focused but from what we’ve seen, Finn has inherited his mother’s determination genes.
So while ‘Independence Day’ has come early for Sheila, she’s far from getting to experience a happy Mother’s Day with either her son. Novlan continues to get better and better in his role of Finn; the more B&B hands the actor solid material, the more he takes the bull by the horns and delivers. First, we saw him rise up — figuratively and literally — when he blasted Sheila for shooting him and keeping him from his family last summer. Now, we’re seeing him be even stronger as he’s letting the naughty nurse know that she’s never going to hurt him or his family again.
Honorable Mention: Heather Tom (Katie), last week’s Performer of the Week for B&B, continues to shine as her character urges her ex, Bill (Don Diamont), to kick Sheila to the curb. She’s been delivering since she made her daytime debut as Victoria on The Young and the Restless over 30 years ago. Brava!
