Soap Hub Performer of the Week for B&B: Kimberlin Brown

Making Sheila Carter Finn’s biological mother has thrown everyone’s life into a tailspin on The Bold and the Beautiful. Kimberlin Brown, Sheila’s portrayer, is back and hasn’t lost a single touch of the deviousness that made the character such a hit in the first place. For her portrayal of daytime’s most infamous baby-stealer, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for B&B on Brown.

Kimberlin Brown – Performer of the Week

Sheila’s come back many times over the years brandishing various weapons. This time, she has a powerful tool in her arsenal – Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) birth certificate. As Finn’s mom and Hayes’s grandmother, Sheila’s tied to the Forrester clan via his marriage to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) in a way she never has been in the past.

Fortunately, for Sheila, she managed to gain an audience with an unsuspecting Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan in the Forrester guest house prior to reconnecting with the Forresters. She poured her heart out to her boy, telling him that she never stopped loving him and she was so incredibly proud of the man he’s become.

In moments like this, it’s difficult to believe whether Sheila, a woman capable of inflicting great pain, is truly capable of feeling genuine love. Is Sheila truly happy to be reunited with her son – or is she laying groundwork simply to use Finn against the Forresters? Kimberlin Brown’s performance is so psychotic and myopic, viewers can’t tell – which keeps them coming back for more.

Already feeling like he was having the best day of his life, courtesy of his marriage to Steffy, Finn soaked up all the love his birth mom was throwing his way. When Sheila offered to leave, an elated Finn wouldn’t hear of it. He insisted on introducing her to everyone back at the reception.

Naturally, Finn was confused as to his new in-laws’ reaction to Sheila, which was understandable. Brown knows how to bring to her character a “Who me? That was all in the past” attitude better than anyone. Even standing in the very place where she shot both Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor Hayes (Hunter Tylo), Sheila maintained that she was no longer that woman.

When the Forresters informed Finn of his birth mother’s wicked ways (like Sheila shooting Taylor kept her from her kids for years), Sheila insisted, “I apologized for that and I meant it!” That comeback would be laughable except for one important reason – Brown fully commits to the words and does her best to make the other characters believe Sheila’s telling the truth.

Those who’ve known Sheila the longest – Brooke, Eric (John McCook), and Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) – aren’t fooled by Sheila’s platitudes and the best part is, deep down, Sheila doesn’t really care. The naughty nurse knows that her greatest rival on B&B can’t hurt her anymore because she’s no longer among the living.

What do you think? Post a comment!

Sheila shot a smirk at the late Stephanie’s (Susan Flannery) portrait as if to say, “I’m in your granddaughter’s life and you can’t do anything about it!” No matter how Sheila’s current return plays out, she’s won this match.

Finn wasn’t so naïve about Sheila anymore after he learned that Sheila shot Taylor, his new mother-in-law. “It’s not fair for you to say that I tried to kill her,” Sheila maintained. “I never wanted to hurt Taylor. She came into the room and started interfering…if she hadn’t tried to grab that gun…none of it would have happened.”

It’s fascinating to watch Sheila take all the facts and present them in a way in which she comes off innocent. Sheila was up against a room full of Forresters and Finn’s parents Jack (Ted King) and Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) but it appeared as if they were the ones who were outnumbered. Sheila acts as if the people hurt by her actions are overreacting and she’s the one who is tolerating them.

A furious Steffy slapped Sheila and, rather than act hurt or fight back, unphased Sheila simply smirked. Now, Sheila’s in the power position, knowing she’s got Steffy acting emotionally.

Word got around town that Sheila was back and even Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) gasped over the news. Sheila’s manipulative ways continued as she played Finn’s nurse like a fiddle, getting her son’s unsuspecting colleague to reveal Finn’s personal cell phone number even though it was against policy.

Selfish Sheila didn’t even muster up a fake name to give to her patsy. Bitch. Next, she shot her son a text and he responded with a heart emoji. Gotcha! Sheila’s already winning and we can’t wait to see where the show’s writers and Kimberlin Brown will take the character next.
