A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Props, Promises & Pleas

The author’s opinions on B&B are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

Last week, I took The Bold and the Beautiful writers to task for what I considered out and out of trolling [why would any one of us want to watch Katie (Heather Tom) and Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) stand around and discuss the possibility of Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) reuniting with the same enthusiasm that should be spent talking about their budding romance?] but now I want to give them props for throwing us viewers some bones.

On Wednesday, there was Hope (Annika Noelle) disparaging “world-renowned psychiatrist” Taylor [Hey! That’s what we call her!], and two days later, Liam (Scott Clifton) bellowed out the following: “I am so, honestly SO sick of talking about Thomas, and thinking about Thomas, and worrying about Thomas. I’m even sick of saying the name Thomas [we hear you, Liam].

I see you B&B, and I very much appreciate it. That said, it’s a crying shame that storylines on this show are [CLEARLY] written to a specific point in time, the necessary beats of the plot be damned. The story dictates that Brooke and Ridge are to reunite in Rome, so before the characters set off for Italy, Brooke and Taylor’s (Krista Allen) sister-friendship had to be torn asunder.

What do you think? Post a comment!

As a whole, it didn’t make a ton of sense — Taylor’s motivations for making a play for Ridge changed from one episode to the next — and Brooke’s screaming that no one in her life had ever betrayed her so was the very definition of OTT. But I have to say that I got SUCH a thrill from hearing Ridge actually question whether or not it was actually a good idea for him and “Logan” to reunite. That one was definitely for the fans.

Further B&B Musings

* I cannot tell you how refreshing it was to hear Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) declare their intention to stay well and truly out of their parents’ love lives. Can we please, please, please keep it that way? Like, can there be a guarantee in writing, because I just can’t suffer through another parenting trap?
