A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Pointed Questions & Insider Buzz

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: The Critic’s POV

I think my previous columns will bear me out when I say that I’m not the type to answer every pointed question with “Because of an ism or a phobia” (i.e. racism, sexism, homophobia, et. al), but I must admit that when I wondered to myself “Why must Li, Poppy, and Luna be related to one another”, there was one pretty inescapable conclusion.

Not only is the linking of the show’s three Asian characters through blood a thoroughly uninspiring choice, but the way they have chosen to do so makes no sense. Finn (Tanner Novlan) is going to take exception to Luna’s (Lisa Yamada) job and Li (Lisa Yamada) is going to see to it that her niece is stripped of her position? HUH?! Finn is married to the ostensible CEO of the company and Li loves her daughter-in-law. So, what’s the issue?

The only way I can possibly see this playing out — and I’m going out on a bit of a limb here (but not too far given B&B’s penchant for quasi-incestuous pairings. Remember Ridge snogging Bridget?) — is if Luna is the product of Poppy sleeping with her adopted nephew.

Disgusting? Definitely. Out of the realm of possibilities on this soap? Not in the slightest.

Further B&B Musings

* I’m not sure how tapped into the Soap Twitterverse the vast majority of you are, but word on the street is that John McCook is poised to sign a new three-year contract. So, if the supposed insiders know of which they speak, what could possibly be ailing Eric that’s serious enough to induce hand tremors and cause him to cough blood, but won’t take his life for the foreseeable future and beyond? Get speculating!

* So, Taylor (Krista Allen) disappeared just as suddenly and with just as much fanfare as she reappeared, and her appearance served to do little more than remind that she’s never, ever going to get over losing Ridge (Thorsten Kaye)….yeah, seems pretty par for the course.
