When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.
As expected, the fallout from “Kissgate” threatened to swallow B&B whole, taking as it did an agonizing double-bill before Hope (Annika Noelle) managed to blubber that she’d locked lips with Thomas and a further episode and a half before Liam (Scott Clifton) spit out that he wanted a divorce and hightailed it out of the she-shed he and his soon-to-be-ex-wife call home. [Why he didn’t take his still packed suitcases as he went will forever remain a mystery.]
And all the while — an excruciating three and a half installments to be exact — we had to watch Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) discuss the situation and engage in debate as to whether or not “Lope” could survive Hope’s indiscretion.
The only relief from the plot came via round-robin talk about Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) reuniting which also began to grate after the second or third airing.
At least there was this little nugget courtesy of Taylor (Krista Allen): “I am tired of the back and forth for years and years, of us fighting over Ridge. It’s the same song, the 20th verse, and I am done. Aren’t you tired of singing this?”
How apropos considering the fans are equally as tired. [I also got a kick out of “dusty destiny card” so, there’s that.]
And seeing as how I frequently dog Bold and the Beautiful for failing to cite its characters’ histories when appropriate, I’d be remiss if I didn’t hand out kudos to the scriptwriter who had Hope throw Liam’s own checkered past up in his face. Now that’s some dialogue I can REALLY get behind.
* Bill (Don Diamont) says that he wants to make up with Katie (Heather Tom) and show her that he’s a changed man, but when he has a prime opportunity to do some courting — Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) is in Italy after all — he fails to even swing by Forrester Creations and check in on his [second] favorite former missus and instead heads for the Stella Maris. [Yes, yes, I seem to recall something about some business being conducted before the fun in the sun can commence, but still…]
* Here’s hoping against hope that Monday’s episode opens with Steffy backhanding Liam for his unwanted advance.
* Oh, I wish B&B could shake off its 1950’s mentality where a simple kiss can cause such consternation. Were this the same show twenty years ago, Hope’s fantasy of riding Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) in a…I want to say wind tunnel considering how her tresses flew about her face, would have come to pass and Liam would have stumbled upon the scene.
