When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.
For years — four to be precise — I proffered that it would behoove The Bold and the Beautiful, a soap opera ostensibly set in the hurly burly rag trade, apparently apropos of the first family of fashion, to actually stage what the French would call a défilé de mode. My opinion was finally — FINALLY — heeded, and the results were…a mixed bag.
The “core values” supposedly represented by the line — finding one’s strength, courage, empathy, and selflessness — didn’t seem to me to be on display, what with two outfits hitting the runway that can best be described as undergarments covered in diaphanous sheets and one that wouldn’t look out of place in a Matrix film.
That said, the several flapper inspired pieces were pleasing to the eye, and I was particularly taken with the fringe covered jumper.
Irony of ironies, the most bold and beautiful dress was actually the one donned by Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) in Thomas Forrester’s (Matthew Atkinson) fantasy.
What I truly don’t understand, however, was where did all the pressure heaped upon Hope and the showing come from? Thanks to buyer Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman), Hope For The Future’s latest offering was already a qualified success BEFORE the preview so what was with all those snarky comments about HFTF being a, “leftover line”?
And not for nothing, but as Soap Hub’s own Michael Maloney pointed out, “Does that member of the fourth estate think he’s going to get a good seat at the next show? An exclusive?”
Also, how could this showing be, “the most important moment,” of Hope’s career? Wouldn’t that have been the HFTF debut? And if I’m not mistaken, it’s been stated many a time that it was HFTF and Quinn Fuller’s (Rena Sofer) jewelry line that was keeping Forrester Creations afloat. It certainly isn’t Ridge Forrester’s (Thorsten Kaye) haute couture designs, because he’s been far too preoccupied waffling between women to even sketch something let alone a whole collection.
* Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri) purposefully bypassing Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) to get to Hope damn near broke my heart and only strengthens my conviction that someone at The Bold and the Beautiful has a particular disdain for stepparents and/or unconventional families.
* Gosh, that Sheila-centric flashback-filled B&B episode sure was fun, wasn’t it?
* Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) and Katie Logan (Heather Tom) are…cute together. That’s all I got.
* Why didn’t Hope take Kelly and Douglas trick-or-treating to Grandpa Deacon’s (Sean Kanan)? I think it would have been far cuter to see little Beth showing off some karate moves rather than the children of some rando co-worker of Deacon’s.
