John McCook of The Bold and the Beautiful visited The Talk last year to accept his Soap Hub Award as Favorite Actor for B&B. Recently, the star dropped by the CBS talk show again to celebrate his Daytime Emmy nomination in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor, for his role as Eric Forrester.
John McCook Visits The Talk
McCook chatted with The Talk hosts Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood about the storyline that earned him his nod this year. As viewers recall, Eric suffered from erectile dysfunction, which prompted him to tell his wife Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) that she could resume her extramarital affair with Forrester COO Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor).
“It’s pretty cool, you know, I’ve been nominated before…it is a big deal, and especially for this storyline,” McCook told The Talk hosts. “This was very controversial when we started it, and a lot of people didn’t like it, and a lot of people did. And so, it was rich and full and for me to have to figure out how to play this…it worked out well. Very dramatic stuff, wonderful to play.
All’s Well That Ends Well
“He made a decision that I did not agree with, and I’m not sure I want to play this, that goes through my mind,” McCook revealed. “And then it’s, I’ll play it, as long as I know that my friend Eric Forrester, the character, as long as I know that he’s going to realize that it was wrong, and he can explain why he felt he wanted to do it. Then I can come around, okay, I can play this, because I know I’m going to come out the other end of it.”
John McCook has played Eric for decades, having made his B&B debut in the show’s first episode on March 23, 1987, and he has a special connection to his character. “You know, Eric is my friend. He’s [been] my friend for 35 years,” the actor says. “He makes choices which I don’t agree, but that’s him, and I always wish him well.”
John McCook Talks Eric and Donna
The B&B veteran also chatted about Eric’s own extramarital affair with his ex-wife Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis). “It’s like I go back to her because, it was wonderful,” McCook smiles. “And we can skip a lot of that, ‘Where did you go to school?’ [and] ‘Where did you grow up?’ We can skip all that and get right to it.”
