A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: Marriage Woes Set In

The Bold and the Beautiful A Critics Review
 Comments

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of BB’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

In last week’s column, we highlighted the similarities between Vinny Walker’s (Joe LoCicero) death and that of Forrester in-law Darla Einstein. Now, the soap seems to be once again reaching into the past for inspiration.

One of BB’s inaugural plot points was the slow disintegration of Eric’s (John McCook) and Stephanie’s (Susan Flannery) marriage. The union was well over two decades old, malaise had set in, and true sexual intimacy seemed a foreign concept to the couple.

All that, and more, eventually resulted in Eric turning to attractive blonde – re: Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) – after attractive blonde – re: Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis)…not to mention the diabolical, raven-haired Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown).

Cut to 2021, and Eric is married to Quinn Fuller (Rena Sofer) – the second coming, or, at least a near carbon copy, of Sheila. And he’s tired. Dog tired. Tired of the schemes, and the manipulations, and the way she insinuates herself into everyone else’s business regardless of whether she’s had a previous conversation with them or not; see Quinn’s sudden “connection” with Zoe (Kiara Barnes).

And much like his (first) marry go-round with Steph, Eric has been going without physical love. Quinn is equally frustrated by it all – hence her spilling her metaphorical guts to Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) – though she has no one to blame for her predicament but herself.

But have no fear. If we’ve learned anything from this show, it’s that Quinn can look forward to a divorce, a few reconciliations, and an interim love interest or two.

Further BB Musings

* Let’s get this straight, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). You have a problem with drivers who cause accidents and then drive away without taking any responsibility for their actions? Really? Okay, you confess to what you did to Emma Barber, and we’ll consider caring about your feelings where Vinny and his death by a hit-and-run driver are concerned…flaming hypocrite!

Judgmental digression aside, can someone explain to us why Lieutenant Baker *excuse us* Deputy Chief Baker show up at Forrester Creations and makes out like he thinks Thomas might have something to do with his friend’s death?

Does the top cop think having your sister’s paternity test doctored is actually a valid motive for homicide? Shouldn’t he be questioning, oh we don’t know, FINN (Tanner Novlan) – the man who came a hair’s breadth from having a child ripped away from him? Now that’s a motive.

* Scott Clifton and Don Diamont continue to shine in their scenes together, the former in particular. And thank you to the writer who penned Bill’s curt line, “We can’t keep going over the same thing!” That was a welcomed lampshade moment if there ever was one.

* Extra kudos to all involved in bringing to life those spooky “Haunting of Liam” scenes. Very well done.

* It takes a big man to admit that he was wrong and to say sorry. But what exactly does Zende (Delon de Metz) have to be sorry for? Is it becoming the object of a crazy woman’s obsession? Because, correct us if we’re wrong, that’s exactly what transpired between him and Zoe.

Zende backed off the minute Carter put a ring on Zoe’s finger, and he told her time after time that he wasn’t interested in “seeing what could happen between them.” Heck, he even went out of his way to avoid her. Zende was the victim of a stalker. Carter needs to recognize this fact.

* And speaking of Zoe, it’s one day following her decision to dose Paris (Diamond White) with a digestive concoction, and now she’s suddenly adopted a Zen-like outlook on the world?

NOW she’s decided that she wants to be a good sister. NOW she wants to bestow her blessings? Girl bye! Let us know what you think in the comments section below. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
