A Critic’s Review Of The Bold and the Beautiful: A Finn-Tastic Week

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For four days (the show was preempted on Friday) we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of BB’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

Finn (Tanner Novlan) gained a baby, a wife and a stepdaughter-to-be, and a whole host of in-laws all in one day. That’s a pretty neat hat trick.

But now that the soap seems majorly invested in this new character – and it doesn’t get more serious than tying them to a beloved legacy character through both marriage and child-rearing – perhaps it’s time we learned a little bit more about him.

So far, we know that he’s an excellent surgeon, he has an almost abnormal amount of empathy, he’s not too quick on the draw when it comes to outing secrets – seriously, it took Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) doing a runner to convince him to reveal that the child she was carrying was his – and he had a mother with great taste in jewelry. But that’s about it.

Amber Sinclair, Soap Hub’s speculation sensation, clobbered together some suggestions as to who might have birthed this (seemingly?) thoroughly decent young man, and we’d be more than happy for BB to prove one of those picks veracious – but we know that there’s every possibility that those theories might go the way of our assumption that Finn and Vinny (Joe LoCicero) were brothers.

Whatever the case may be, the fact remains that Finn is STILL, all this time later, a nearly blank slate as far as background credentials go. It’s time investigations were made and truths revealed.

Further BB Musings

* Liam (Scott Clifton) continues to be his own worst enemy. First, he complains that his extramarital alliance DIDN’T produce a child (say what?!), and then he blamed said affair on his wife (Annika Noelle) because she wanted to see the good in his mortal enemy…and we might give him a half pass on that.

Yes, it was wrong of Hope to continue insinuating herself into Thomas’ (Matthew Atkinson) life and vice versa. She did not deserve to be cheated on – but she does need to take some responsibility for the cracks in her relationship.

* Hallelujah, Hallelujah, that portrait of Liam and Steffy has finally been retired. Fingers crossed that it will never rear its beautifully framed face ever again.

* So, Thomas caused a young woman’s death, but he gets a free pass because he was really, really sorry about it. But when Vinny, who we’ll point out is not a member of a powerful dynastic clan, switches a paternity test he gets thrown into the slammer? Really? That’s the Forrester’s, and this soaps, idea of justice? #JusticeForEmmaBarber.

* Four days, four episodes, and two storylines: the disintegration of Hope and Liam’s marriage and Finn and Steffy’s engagement. And even when other characters were on screen, they were merely there to discuss the developments in those two storylines.

Last week we made a plea for a more well rounded canvas, and we make that plea again. Here’s hoping that in the near future we will again see the likes of Katie (Heather Tom) and Bill (Don Diamont), and Quinn (Rena Sofer) and Eric (John McCook), and even Flo (Katrina Bowden) and Wyatt (Darin Brooks).

It really seemed like the show was poised to heavily reinvest in the two of them, and suddenly the story was dropped as quickly as it began. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
