Alyvia Alyn Lind will reunite with her pals from The Young and the Restless next month at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmys in Pasadena, Calif. The actress, who has vacated her role as Faith Newman, is nominated in the category of Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series. Soap Hub chatted with the actress about her nomination and her post-Y&R life on the series Chucky.
This is Alyvia Alyn Lind’s third Daytime Emmy nomination. She received a nod in this category last year and also in 2017, when the category was broken up into one for actor and one for actress. Understandably, Lind is thrilled to be nominated. Here’s what she had to say about the exciting news!
Soap Hub: How did you learn of your nomination?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: I was in Canada and couldn’t get live TV! And I knew the nominations were coming out — so my mom was in New York watching CBS with a bunch of our friends and they were all crossing their fingers. They all called me when they got the good news and we celebrated on Zoom!
Soap Hub: Can you talk about your reel? What scenes are on it? Does it tell a story?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: I loved putting my reel together this year because the writers gave Faith such a great emotional arc. As an actress, I have dealt with a lot of online bullying, so I felt very close to this storyline [in which Faith was also being bullied]. My reel also shows the repercussions of drinking and driving and how you can get through anything with the support of a loving family.
Soap Hub: How do you feel Faith grew while you played her?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: Faith has obviously been through a lot in her young life. But I have always felt that through every hardship, she has grown emotionally. By the end of last year, Faith understood that what she did was wrong, and she matured because of it. I have loved every minute of Faith’s journey.
Soap Hub: Are you familiar with your competition and their work?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: I don’t like to call [my fellow nominees] “competition.” I am so impressed with all of the nominees. I have worked in all different media, and being on a soap is such hard work. There is so much dialogue daily and only one chance to get it right. And soap actors are always prepared and completely on it and always have such great attitudes. I’m really proud of the years I spent on Y&R.
Soap Hub: Will you be attending the ceremony? If so, are you looking at gowns, jewelry?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: I am working in Toronto right now, but I’m doing everything I can to get on that plane and attend the ceremony! I’m looking at dresses and jewelry and shoes right now, and I’m so excited!
Soap Hub: For the last few years, the Younger Performer category has been combined for both men and women. How do you feel about that?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: This sounds so cliché but honestly, I’m just happy to be going to the ceremony and celebrating my nomination with my Y&R family!
Soap Hub: You were on Y&R for so long; what did being on the show mean to you? How do you feel it prepared you for working in the business on other shows?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: (Laughs) I started in a stroller on Y&R! But as soon as they let me walk, I learned about blocking and rhythm and timing and lines and giving to other actors. It was the best training ground! And I was so fortunate to work with the best of the best. It is helped me in every area of acting.
Soap Hub: Congratulations on Chucky getting another season! Has shooting been completed? What might viewers be able to look forward to in Season 2?
Alyvia Alyn Lind: I play a character named Lexy on Chucky and she is quite different than Faith. I’m working on Season 2 right now, and all I can say is that Lexy spirals in some serious ways. Chucky is about a killer doll, but it’s so much more than that. Like Y&R, it deals with bullying and dives into coming of age issues in such a beautiful way. I hope Y&R fans will check it out!
