Marci Miller will join her fellow Days of our Lives castmates at the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards later this month. The fan favorite is nominated in the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress. Soap Hub chatted with the performer about what her current nod means to her.
Will the third time be the charm? Miller has been nominated for her work on DAYS twice before in the years 2018 and 2019 in the Lead Actress category. Find out what’s on her reel, how she feels about being nominated, her reaction to one of her co-stars receiving the gold for sure, and more.
Soap Hub: How’ve you been? How’s motherhood with daughter Willett?
Marci Miller: It’s the ‘bee’s knees’ man, I love it. The greatest time of my life. Motherhood is an incredible gift.
Soap Hub: It’s great to see your name on the ballot for Outstanding Lead Actress. How did you find out you were nominated?
Marci Miller: Thank you. It wasn’t on my radar. I didn’t know the noms were coming out that day. I was with my kid and I looked down at my phone and saw a text message from Billy Flynn [Chad DiMera]. And then, I got messages from other friends. This is the second time I found out I was nominated from Billy Flynn.
Soap Hub: What scenes are on your reel?
Marci Miller: I tried to create an arc in the story I was in. The opening scenes are where Gwen [Emily O’Brien] stayed with Chad in the hotel all night long. She realizes maybe Gwen took advantage of her husband [and] she loses her mind. Then, Abby finds out Gwen is pregnant and that Chad is the father. Then, there are scenes with Billy where Abby is frustrated and remorseful that Gwen has done all these things to her and made her into someone she doesn’t want to be. How can Abby move forward?
Soap Hub: Now the fun stuff — choosing gowns, maybe borrowing jewelry. How’s all that going?
Marci Miller: I have started investigating. I’m always in this frustrating territory where I have specific ideas and strong opinions, but I hate shopping. I went with Sal Stowers [Lani Price Grant] and my daughter and we found a few things we liked but I just decided to work with a a stylist. Sal connected me with one. We’ve been e-mailing. The quick answer is I’m not sure yet. Someone else will help me put it all together.
Soap Hub: How do you feel about it being back in primetime and on broadcast TV?
Marci Miller: We needed this. It’s going to be so great.
Soap Hub: Traditionally, the Lead Actress nominees get together for a lunch to celebrate. What are those get-togethers like?
Marci Miller: They’re great. It feels like sacred space a little bit. We’re all from different shows. This is, for the most part, the one time of the year we see each other. We have moments to [talk]. We have a wide range of experiences. It was amazing. The last time I went, Eileen Davidson [Ashley, The Young and the Restless] hosted. Things got really deep and cool. Women were sharing some profound moving stories. I left feeling uplifted and connected. I am excited for this year’s. We’ve [all] gotten emails about it. [Jacquline MacInnes Wood, Steffy, B&B] has a reputation for throwing great parties.
Soap Hub: Do you have a speech?
Marci Miller: I have always kept a short list of names in my purse. I like to speak from the heart. Nobody shows up that day expecting to win. You think it’ll be someone else. People are genuinely surprised when they do win.
Soap Hub: We don’t know who’s winning on Daytime Emmy night but we do know John Aniston (Victor Kiriakis) is going to win the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Marci Miller: I have so much respect for this man. I sit in my room and watch him do his scenes and I say that’s how you do the work. There’s something magical about less is more in this industry. He’s so smart and super-talented. He’s found a perfect way to use it.
