As the Verdict Nears, GH’s Tabyana Ali Talks About the Hero in Her Story

If Trina Robinson is found innocent of recording her pals having sex and then distributing said recording, she might have Spencer Cassadine to thank on General Hospital. The heir testified that he was with Trina when the footage was distributed — even though that meant he was arrested for going AWOL from Spring Ridge. Tabyana Ali, who plays Trina, sat down with Soap Hub to talk about Trina’s trial, Spencer, Officer Rory Cabrera, and more.

Tabyana Ali – How Trina’s Trial Took a Turn

As GH viewers know, Trina is on trial, having been charged with recording a video of her pals Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Cameron Webber (William Lipton) having sex and also releasing the video. ADA Jennifer Arden (Jennifer Field) is determined to earn a conviction in this case, but her job got a lot harder after Spencer (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) stepped forward. Will this affect Trina’s feelings about him?

Soap Hub: Do you see all the love for #Sprina on social media? People want to know when Spencer and Trina will kiss.
Tabyana Ali: Oh, yes. They’re dying for it! Everyone’s question is, ‘When are you going to kiss?’

Soap Hub: How does it feel to have all that support?
Tabyana Ali: I feel honored and blessed. What a great position I’m in to have that support. I speak to people all the time on social media. I see all their beautiful comments. It’s all so surreal. Working with Nicholas [Alexander Chavez]…he’s one of the greatest people. He’s on my side, and he has such love for his fans. His work ethic is absolutely amazing. He’s good at what he does.

Soap Hub: Some say that Trina going to trial isn’t realistic given the circumstantial evidence and the support she has from Cameron and Joss, but it all set the stage for Spencer to testify on Trina’s behalf. How did that make her feel?
Tabyana Ali: She’s seen that all this time he has been playing [Esme] to find some evidence to try and help her. Trina’s been having feelings for Rory, but I’m not sure how much she’ll pursue that now that she knows…Spencer did that for me? I’m not sure what she’s going to do next.

Soap Hub: We saw that Rory tried to help Trina when he used his discretion to not arrest Trina and Joss for being in the bar with fake I.D.
Tabyana Ali: I definitely think Rory is trying…he’s a good guy who knows himself. He has morals. That’s what Trina likes about him.

Soap Hub: Speaking of Trina and Joss going to the bar to try to track down how Esme [Avery Kristen Pohl] got a burner phone, how did you feel about Trina trying to be her own hero in this story? She wasn’t waiting for someone to save her.
Tabyana Ali: Heck, yes! Independent woman! What a time to be alive! I hope that showed women that you can’t just sit around and wait for it to come to you. You have to go out and do it yourself. I love that moment. And I thought it was a funny episode, too, and that it was inspiring.
