Necessity can sometimes back strange bedfellows… and apartment-mates. Shelter is one of the five basic needs and if you have to wind up sharing the accommodations, a soap star could do a lot worse than choosing to do so with a hilarious co-worker and good friend.
Who Is The Veteran Soap Star In Question?
All of these actresses are either one-time stars of long-gone daytime TV programs – Guiding Light, One Life to Live, and Search for Tomorrow – or alums of one of the four remaining daytime dramas – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless). And all of them are well known to Alec Baldwin. But only one of them can claim that she shared an apartment with the Oscar, Tony, and Emmy Award-nominated actor.
But who can that veteran player be? Is it Kim Zimmer (ex-Reva Shayne Lewis, GL), Hillary B. Smith (ex-Nora Hanen Gannon Buchanan, One Life to Live), Jane Krakowski (ex-TR Kendall, Search for Tomorrow), or Joan Van Ark (ex-Gloria Fisher Abbott Bardwell, YR)?
On The Doctors, they played in-laws (Baldwin was Billy Allison Aldrich and Zimmer was Nola Dancy Aldrich, his aunt by marriage) and secret lovers. Behind the scenes, they developed a close friendship that still exists to this day. Baldwin even gave his former screen partner a shoutout during one of his Saturday Night Live monologues! But the two never split the cost of room and board.
Joan Van Ark
Ark and Baldwin played estranged, half-siblings on CBS’s Knots Landing, and from all accounts, the two got along famously and continue to do so – but they never shared an abode.
As 30 Rock’s resident diva, Krakowski (or at least the fictional Jenna Maroney) spent seven years alternatingly exasperating and being exasperated by Baldwin’s character, Jack Donaghy. Though the actors have a warm working relationship in real life, they never tested its strength by moving in together.
Hillary B. Smith
Prior to her joining the cast of The Doctors, Smith (who played Kit on that show) was well aware of two of her future colleagues – she, Zimmer, and Baldwin all shared the same agent. The trio developed a close friendship and Smith even shared an apartment with Baldwin.
So, if you guessed that perhaps the daytime star in question was Hillary B. Smith – who is also an As the World Turns (ex-Margo Hughes), GH (ex-Nora) and BB (ex-Dr. Stacy Barton) alum – then you were absolutely correct!
