There has been many an athlete who’s confessed to a devotion for daytime dramas. Likewise, there are many soap stars just as dedicated to their favorite sports team or player.
Which Soap Star Was It?
All of these actors are either alums of a long-ago classic – like Another World or Guiding Light – or they currently portray a character on one of the four remaining soaps – The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless. But only one of them hosted a segment dedicated to the game of hockey on The Best Damn Sports Show Period.
But who can that actor be? Was it Alicia Coppola (ex-Lorna Devon, AW), Stephen A. Smith (Brick, GH), Frank Dicopoulos (ex-Frank Cooper, GL), or Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers, YR)?
Alicia Coppola
Upon obtaining her philosophy degree from New York University, Coppola made the acquaintance of a model managed by the Elite agency who arranged a meeting between her and the company.
That led to some modeling assignments and a 13-week hostessing gig on the MTV game show Remote Control. But she never hosted a look at memorable moments transpiring during Hockey games.
Stephen A. Smith
Smith – known to GH fans as Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) ever-faithful tech genius, gadget operator, and document forger – is one of sports television’s all-time go-to experts on the subject of basketball. He analyzes the games and its players for a plethora of series including SportsCenter and NBA Countdown.
And though he did indeed work on The Best Damn Sports Show Period, Smith’s insider knowledge was used in segments dedicated to – what else? – basketball!
Frank Dicopoulos
Dicopoulos planned on becoming a doctor. However, a dedication to sports and a love of acting classes derailed those plans. After graduating from Kenyon College’s pre-med program, Dicopoulos held a number of jobs including hosting duties for an ESPN series entitled On the Move. But he never worked on The Best Damn Sports Show Period.
Michelle Stafford
Stafford’s life long passion for the sport of hockey (and her unyielding love for the L.A. Kings) came in mighty handy when she was selected to serve as that sports commentator/recapper during a segment presented by the aforementioned series.
So, if you guessed that the soap star in question was Stafford, then you were absolutely right!
