Dominic Zamprogna has let the powers-that-be at General Hospital know he’s ready to resurrect his role as Dante Falconeri, and now is the perfect time for his return. Here’s why the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
General Hospital Needs Him
In a recent interview, Zamprogna revealed he’d contacted the soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, and let it be known he’s ready and willing to sign a new contract with the show. As the son of mob boss Sonny (Maurice Benard) and his long-ago ex, Olivia (Lisa LoCicero), as well as being the former husband of the fiery Lulu (Emme Rylan), Dante is a pivotal character on the Port Charles landscape. And Zamprogna is a fan favorite, so scripting him back onto the soap would definitely please viewers
Creating Buzz
Beyond all that, Zamprogna’s return will be just what General Hospital needs when the show finally resumes production. Think about it. If the soap runs out of episodes and has to revert to reruns mode, it’s going to need a hook to get fans to tune in once it’s up and running, again. Advertising Dante’s return, via TV ads or in the soap press, would be just that. There’s nothing like a big comeback to excite and lure in fans.
A Dangerous Man
Plus, as viewers know, Dante is no longer the man he used to be. A dangerous undercover assignment left him with PTSD and displaying signs of violence. Remember he pulled a knife on Jason (Steve Burton) during his last visit to Port Charles and opted to leave town and his family to keep them safe.
And, last summer, while at a WSB facility for treatment, he grabbed a guard’s gun and shot Peter (Wes Ramsey), when Peter and Maxie (Kirsten Storms) attempted to fetch him and bring him home to Lulu.
This isn’t the good guy Dante of old. This is a new dangerous version. Hence, he’d be a far more interesting character than the one who initially appeared on GH.
What About Lulu?
On the relationship front, Dante served Lulu with divorce papers and, although she loved her husband, she didn’t contest things. Their divorce went through, and she’s since moved on with Dustin (Mark Lawson).
While her romance with the ho-hum schoolteacher is sweet, let’s face it, it doesn’t hold a candle to the passion she shared with Dante. So bringing him back into the mix will spice things up.
One specific way it would do just that is because now Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) is back in the picture. She’s always had a thing for Dante and dated Dustin in the past. Add her rivalry with Lulu to the mix and it’s got all the makings for storyline fireworks. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
