With soap production shut down since March and only now getting restarted, our favorite actors have been home like so many of us due to the coronavirus pandemic. General Hospital star Sonya Eddy has used this time to reflect about life — and she tells Soap Hub all about it in this exclusive chat.

Sonya Eddy Talks About Life

What have you been surprised to learn about yourself during the quarantine?
I’ve always known I was good by myself. What I’m finding out is that I’m also good at setting small tasks. Didn’t realize that’s what I do every day until I didn’t have anything breaking up my day!

During the repeat shows, did you make sure to watch the Nurses Ball episodes on GH?
Yes, I did!

So many reminders of your uber talent; what is your strongest memory taping Nurses Ball episodes?
I was particularly proud of the Best of My/Our Love and Everyday People numbers. We worked REALLY hard on those! Yet, the one Nurses Ball that stands out the most to me is the last one where we had Rick Pessagno as our choreographer. When he choreographed that new version of the opening number, and we took it from the hospital to the actual Nurses Ball was FABULOUS!

Do you have a favorite gown from all the years?
That red dress, honey! It was giving me LIFE!

Are there any gowns that you hope you never lay your eyes on again?
The silver disco ball thing. I hated that with a passion.

Is there a favorite local restaurant that you’re craving?
They just recently closed the DuPar’s that was in my neighborhood. They had the best bacon and their pancakes were seriously wonderful.

What do you think you’ll do when you walk into the General Hospital studios for the first time after work begins?
I’m going to want to hug everybody, but that won’t be allowed. I think I may just stay out front as long as I can to say hello to everybody coming through the door. I miss those peeps.

What co-stars have you kept in close touch with?
I speak with Marc Samuel [Felix] on a regular basis. I keep in touch with Dioni [Michelle Collins; Deanna] and Risa [Dorken; Amy] on social media.

What was your favorite television show when you were a kid?
H.R. Pufnstuf! I loved Witchypoo! And I could watch Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory all day every day! I still stop everything I’m doing if I catch it on TV. Love, Love, Love Gene Wilder!

Is there a TV show you always watched as a family?
We watched Get Christy Love (Teresa Graves was amazing), Happy Days, All In The Family, The Jeffersons, and MASH. Me and my father watched Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Soap, Dark Shadows, and Creature Features together.

Is there a television show – or was it a movie – that made you realize that’s what you wanted to do?
Nope. I never grew up wanting to be in this business. It pretty much just “happened.”

What’s the last book you’ve read that you can recommend?
Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi. It’s the second book in her series. If you love sci-fi, this is a GREAT book for you!

What is the last gift you bought for yourself?
I love makeup, so I just recently bought myself a membership to BoxyCharm!

What is your favorite meal that you prepare?
Roast chicken, sautéed spinach, and mashed potatoes!

Are you a great cook?
I’m better than decent – just shy of great!

What’s for dinner tonight?
Fried okra, roast chicken, garlic bread, and ice-cold lemonade!
