Hope Brady is about to get a new roommate on Days of Our Lives – her late husband Bo’s former bestie, Steve. In the soap world that means the show’s writers are toying with the idea of turning the longtime friends into a twosome. Here are a few reasons why Hope (Kristian Alfonso) and Steve (Stephen Nichols) are and aren’t a viable love match.
Say Yes
After months of evil-doing, courtesy of chips implanted in their brain by Dr. Rolf (Will Utay), Hope and Steve find themselves in the same boat. They’re both appalled and ashamed by everything they did while under Stefano’s control. While their friends and family are ready to forgive them, they can’t forgive themselves. That’s something only they can understand and bond over.
As Bo’s (Peter Reckell) pal for decades, Steve knows Hope well and vice versa. They truly like and respect each other and pretty much always have. So seguing from friendship to romance wouldn’t be difficult stretch, as long as it plays out slowly.
A budding Steve/Hope romance would kick up a major Salem quadrangle. Deep down, Steve still loves his “Sweetness,” Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), even though he pushed her into Justin’s arms for the sake of her own safety. And although Kayla loves Justin (Wally Kurth), Steve will always be her soulmate. So there will be plenty of drama to go around and this story progress.
Not So Fast
How can Steve ever think of Hope as anything but his best pal Bo’s wife?
Yes, Bo’s gone, but there’s still a man code thing about hooking up with your friend’s woman. It’s a line that simply shouldn’t be crossed. Hope and Steve have always been close friends, and that’s how they should remain.
How can Hope ever think about crossing the line with Steve in light of her longtime relationship with Kayla? The two women are like sisters, and, deep down, Hope has to know that Kayla is still madly in love with Steve. Plus, after seriously hitting on John as “Princess Gina” and feeling horrible about betraying Marlena, wouldn’t Hope be gun shy about going after Kayla’s guy? Yes, she absolutely would. That’s why Hope and Steve should never even think about crossing that dangerous line.
