The soap opera ratings race brought bad news for “Days of Our Lives” once again as it tied its low in overall viewers the week ending June 17. Meanwhile, “General Hospital” fared better as it was the only soap to make key gains.
DAYS pulled in a total of 2,074,000 total viewers, down 53,000 from the week before and 229,000 from the same week last year. It also lost viewers in each key female demographic, including the coveted 18-49 demo.
DAYS was not the only soap to lose viewers across the board, as the number 1 and number 2 ranked “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” also saw sinking numbers. While they maintained their ranking over DAYS and GH, Y&R pulled in a total of 4,280,000 viewers, down 412,000 from the previous week and 602,000 from the previous year. It also lost viewers in all key demographics. B&B had similar problems, although it did gain 7,000 average viewers from the week before.
Meanwhile, GH was up in total viewers, and in key demos. The 53-year-old soap brought in 2,698,000 overall viewers on average, up 176,000 from the week before. However, it was down 30,000 from the same time last year. In the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics, it also made gains from the week before. For the 18-49 female demo, GH gained 37,000 average viewers from the previous week. In the 25-54 demo, it pulled in 73,000 more average viewers than the week before.
