Finola Hughes has been playing Anna Devane on General Hospital, on and off since April 1985. But the Daytime Emmy award-winning actress had a life and career before — and after — Port Charles. Here are some spots where Hughes fans can see even more of their favorite if you’re missing your daytime fix of her this weekend. (Did you know these facts about her?)
CATS
When the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical claimed “Now and Forver,” they weren’t kidding. Hughes was in the original 1981 London cast and can be seen rehearsing, and performing in these vintage CATS videos.
Staying Alive
Saturday Night Fever was a massive hit, so its sequel was expected to be the same. After all, star John Travolta was back. And when you think of the perfect director for a dancing movie, well, how can you go wrong with Sylvester Stallone? Staying Alive went wrong in so, so, so many ways. But casting Finola Hughes as the brilliant, bitchy, bad girl ballerina wasn’t one of them. You can watch the 1983 on a wide variety of streaming platforms, for pay and for free.
Blossom
The Mayim Bialik-headed sitcom, Blossom, was originally the story of a tween girl and her two brothers being raised by a single dad. But in Season 5, Blossom’s dad (Ted Wass) married Carol, played by Hughes. She moved into the Russo household with her tiny, adorable daughter, Kennedy (played by another soap alum, Courtney Chase, who was the first Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live). Wackiness promptly ensued, which you can watch, here.
Charmed
Would there even be a Power of Three (well, technically, four) if the witches of San Francisco never had a mother in Charmed? Well, they did. Her name was Patty, and she was played by Hughes. Patty kept many, many secrets from her daughters. Find out what those were, here.
Haunted By Her Past/Secret Passions
Daytime Divas Hughes and Susan Lucci (Erica on All My Children) in the same made-for-TV movie is too much awesomeness to contain within a single title. This camp-fest, with Lucci as an innocent wife and Hughes as a (dead) mirror temptress is available under two names. Pick your favorite.
