Why Tristan Rogers Is Beloved As General Hospital’s Robert Scorpio

Seriously, where does one begin when wanting to share why Tristan Rogers is beloved as General Hospital’s Robert Scorpio? Those rugged good looks, that incredible sense of humor, the suave, super-spy charm…that hair?! Since he burst on the Port Charles scene back in 1980, the actor has been winning fans more and more with every passing day.

Tristan Rogers As WSB Agent Robert Scorpio

It was not an easy feat back in the day to draw attention away from Luke Spencer or his portrayer, Anthony Geary, but Scorpio did all of that and more as he helped his BFF and Laura Webber Baldwin (Genie Francis) save the world from the evil of Mikkos Cassadine (John Colicos). The Ice Princess story did more than bring science fiction to soaps — it gave us the handsome Aussie import!

While Robert enjoyed charming the ladies, especially Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt) and Jackie Templeton (then Demi Moore, now Kim Delaney), it was the relationship with his mentor in the WSB, Brighton O’Reilly (Billie Hayes), that truly warmed our hearts. Who can forget when Victor Cassadine (then Thaao Penghlis, now Charles Shaughnessy) had her shot and she died in Robert’s arms — breaking all of our hearts?

That’s not to say his romances aren’t just as important! His sense of loyalty to Luke was evident when he took in and married a supposedly dead Luke’s pregnant love, Holly Sutton (Emma Samms), to save her from being deported and going through the pregnancy alone. Shortly after they married, she miscarried but Robert stood by her and the two fell in love — capturing our hearts as we rooted for them.

While she seemed to be Robert’s greatest love story, who could have imagined that a past one would rival it? Enter Anna Devane (Finola Hughes), Robert’s first wife and the mother of his daughter Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough). Her arrival on the scene was one of the greatest entrances, surprising Robert and letting him display his adorable paternal side.

Years later, it was shocking when we learned Robert had a troublesome kid brother in Mac Scorpio (John J. York), and watching those two in action was also incredible. He brought out yet another facet of Robert’s personality and fans lapped that up just the same. It was a horrible time when everyone thought Robert had been killed and Port Charles never seemed the same.

Luckily for us, Robert and Tristan Rogers are back and continue to thrill us every chance we get to see him. His scenes with Francis’s Laura are particularly poignant, as is his new friendship with Lisa LoCicero’s Olivia Falconeri Quartermaine. Whatever is coming up for him next — we can’t wait!
