Carly Benson arrived on General Hospital barely out of her teens…and promptly proceeded to cause so much damage that some of the effects from her bad decisions are still being almost a quarter of a century later. So when her daughter, Josslyn Jacks reached her teen years, viewers were poised for a Carly Junior.

General Hospital Teen Terror

But what they got were the worst parts of Carly (Laura Wright): The whining, the self-centeredness, the need to be seen as faultless even when at fault. We didn’t get the part of Carly that actually has a brain in her head, and uses it to scheme and stir the pot. So if we want the Second Coming of Carly, we’re going to have to look elsewhere.

GH: Surprise Candidate

And we have an unconventional proposal: Avery Corinthos. Sure, she isn’t Carly’s biological child. But Carly’s biological child turned out to be a dud — and don’t even get us started on the boredom that is Michael Corinthos Quartermaine (Chad Duell). Avery is Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) child…and Ava Jerome Cassadine’s (Maura West). And Ava is much cooler than Carly these days.

General Hospital: Up and About

The first thing that should happen is aging Avery into the teen scene. Sure, she was born a decade after Joss (Eden McCoy), but since when do such things matter on soaps? The fact is, Joss and Avery are stepsisters. They don’t actually share any parents. They’ve just both been absorbed into the Carly and Sonny Need All Your Babies Household. They call each other sisters, but they’re not. So they could, technically, be the same age.

GH: Moving Forward

And if they are both teens, now the fun can really begin. A grown-up Avery could be the villainess Port Charles hasn’t seen since Carly hit town. And if she turns her wrath towards Carly and Joss (Sonny would be nice, too), then what could be more fun than that?
