Why Couldn’t General Hospital Have Just Put Maxie With Chet Driscoll?

Several years ago, Maxie Jones was deeply in love with her husband, Nathan West on General Hospital. One of his most selfless acts was helping Nurse Amy Driscoll with her side hustle of being advice columnist, Man Landers, by being the face of it. Amy was doing it to help her Marine hero brother, Chet Driscoll, with his exorbitant hospital bills.

General Hospital — A Missed Opportunity

Chet (Chris Van Etten) was Nathan-approved — he admired the young man a great deal and could tell he was a good soul in need of a little help, even if he was too proud to accept it. As it turned out, Maxie (Kirsten Storms) had harbored a crush on him back in high school (as many girls did when he played on the football team), much to the consternation of Amy (Risa Dorken), who never got along with Maxie.

Later, it would be revealed that Chet had a crush on Maxie back then as well. After Nathan (Ryan Paevey) was killed and Maxie had spent a while mourning her beloved husband, Chet was seen in town again, this time as a bartender at the Floating Rib. He was considering asking her out but by then, Maxie had developed feelings for Peter August (Wes Ramsey).

Well, we all know how that turned out. Maxie could have avoided so much pain if she had given Chet a chance. But it’s never too late. Chet is a manager at Volonino’s Gym, where he was seen giving Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) late father, Mike Corbin (Max Gail) some boxing tips and they bonded over his military tattoos. Sonny liked him. Everyone likes Chet!

While Port Charles (and fans) continue paying for Maxie’s bad choices, there is still time to right this wrong and bring Chet back to help heal Maxie’s broken heart. There is a ton of backstory to mine, as Amy didn’t want to talk about her father and they have other brothers who left Amy to fend for herself in helping Chet pay his medical bills.

He is also a recovering opioid addict, dealing with the pain from his double amputation, that Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) helped him seek treatment. All of this points to plenty of Port Charles investment in this character who deserves a chance to be a major player and enjoy the sweet romance Maxie and GH viewers deserve.
