Soap Icon Susan Lucci Marks Earth Day With An Adorable Throwback

Today, the world celebrates Earth Day, which began in 1970 as a way for people to demonstrate support for environmental protection and show their love for our planet. All My Children legendary actress Susan Lucci has long cared for the environment and took to Instagram to show her support for this important day and share a memory of a time she taught her kids a significant lesson.

“Happy Earth Day!!!” Lucci wrote, posting a photo of her family in a garden, including her young daughter, Liza Huber. “Throwback to when I planted a vegetable garden with my children, so they would know where vegetables come from—and have the experience of growing and picking them!”

Of course, Huber would go on to a daytime career herself, playing Gwen Hotchkiss on Passions, before retiring from the acting game.

If you examine the photo closely, you’ll notice both Liza and brother Andreas are doing their part to help pick the vegetable out of the ground, but it wasn’t as easy as it seemed. Lucci revealed an important realization from the day—one that she needed to know to have a green thumb.

“This is the day we learned that you can’t just pull carrots up by their green tops—or you just get a bunch of green tops in your hands!!!” she wrote. “You have to dig the carrots up!!!”

Since leaving AMC, Lucci starred for four seasons on the Lifetime hit, Devious Maids, and guested on a host of TV shows, including Difficult People, Army Wives, and Hot in Cleveland.

With Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos working on a primetime sequel to AMC, called Pine Valley, fans hope that not only will it be picked up by ABC, but that Lucci will return to her signature role. After all, what’s Pine Valley without Erica Kane?

Of course, you probably wouldn’t be seeing Erica — or Susan Lucci — in a garden or talking about carrots — unless you’re talking about the number of them in her next engagement ring!
