Days of our Lives threw fans of Stayla a curveball when they brought Stephen Nichols back to Salem as SteVano and not the beloved patched wonder that is Steve Johnson. So Mary Beth Evans hasn’t been able to spend much time with him as Kayla, since the new guy broke her heart, and she’s currently with Justin. But at least the two actors reunited offscreen.
Stephen Nichols and Mary Beth Evans Together Again
Faced with no other choice, the two beloved stars got together over at Evans’ home and knowing how much fans miss seeing them together, both shared a video of their reunion… complete with tangerine hijinks.
“My @marybeth.evans always lifts my spirits. I love you, baby. We have been apart too long. Let’s get back to #days #friendsforlife #patchandkaylaforever ♥️♥️♥️” wrote Nichols alongside the video on his Instagram account.
Evans wrote a similar caption when she said, “Had so much fun seeing my Patchman @stephen_e_nichols for lunch today. We’ve missed each other (and you all too) and had too much fun catching up! Happy New Year! #Days”

New Year Thoughts
Nichols also shared some musings about life a few days earlier when he wrote, “Looking forward to a decade of creativity in work and thought, loving not judging, respecting #personhood #thinkingglobally lending a hand and turning climate change around toward a healing direction for future generations. #santamonicamountains”
He certainly has been creative, having to play a completely new character — and one so beloved as Stefano (created by the late Joe Mascolo). While it’s been a bit jarring for fans, it certainly has been interesting to see the various reactions when new characters like daughter Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) end up hearing the shocking news of his return.
As for the onscreen reunion, fans are hoping against hope for between Steve and Kayla, so you’ll just have to stay tuned. Days of our Lives (DOOL) airs weekdays on NBC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
