General Hospital fans will debate for some time how the show handled Mike coming to an end in Nixon Falls and Sonny being reintegrated back into Port Charles. (For a story that went on for months and months, it did appear to have a rather abrupt resolution.) However, no one can deny that Lexi Ainsworth gave a powerful performance as her character Kristina Davis was reunited with her presumed dear dead dad. For her performance as a daughter who saw her fondest wish come true, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for GH on Ainsworth.
Kristina was understandably a bit confused as to why she was summoned to Carly Corinthos’s home so soon after she married Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). The groom told her that there was something she needed to see. “That was cryptic,” Kristina said, mostly to herself as she wondered what she could possibly need to witness.
There were a lot of people assembled in the living room – Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), Carly (Laura Wright), Jason, Josslyn Jax (Eden McCoy) – but the only person Kristina saw was her father, alive and well.
“Dad?” she asked, incredulous that he was standing there before her very eyes. “Oh, my God,” she added as she ran into a place that she thought she’d never be again – in the safety of her father’s arms.
Kristina burst into tears as she told Sonny how much she missed him. “This is amazing,” Kristina added as she attempted to compose herself. “You know what’s amazing,” Sonny said. “That I’m here with my whole family.” (Umm, we think that’s the “amazing” that Kristina was referring to – but we digress.)
Most of us have had moments in our lives when we’ve burst into tears unexpectedly. However, Ainsworth had to do this on cue and make Kristina’s joy, shock, and tears all seem believable. The Daytime Emmy-winning actress delivered what was asked of her – and more.
Ainsworth’s tour-de-force is all the more impressive as the actress and her on-screen alter-ego haven’t been on the canvas on a regular basis in recent times. Other actors involved in Sonny’s life were playing an ongoing story, mourning his passing and moving forward with their lives as best they could.
The actress was tasked with doing most of that work – mourning and moving forward — off-camera. The fact that she could walk into this dramatic situation and deliver such an emotional performance has left us looking forward to the next time we see Lexi Ainsworth on our screens. We’re hoping it’s sooner rather than later.
