Eden McCoy continues to prove herself as one of daytime’s best young actresses. The General Hospital star’s character Josslyn Jacks recently ripped into Nina Reeves for her role in keeping Sonny Corinthos’s whereabouts a secret. Her tour-de-force has earned McCoy Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for GH.
Eden McCoy – Performer of the Week
Youngsters on soaps either age out of their roles and are recast as young adults or said performers emerge as strong players who have honed the craft of acting and perfected camera techniques that allow them to continue on, thrive, and shine as actors. The latter is clearly the case with GH’s Eden McCoy. She joined the ABC soap almost six years ago and continues to grow, holding her own with daytime veterans as Josslyn becomes her own person.
Last week, Josslyn confronted her former friend Nina (Cynthia Watros) for her decision to keep secret that her stepdad Sonny (Maurice Benard) was alive and well, living in Nixon Falls as an amnesiac named Mike. Proving she’s her mother’s (Carly, played by Laura Wright) daughter, Joss delivered her point clearly, succinctly, and with raw emotion.
At Kelly’s Diner, Joss started off by feeding Nina some sarcasm (a word that’s defined as “tearing flesh” off someone). She suggested that the liar download a food delivery app since she’s not welcomed in any Port Charles eatery given her lies about Sonny. A contrite Nina apologized and started to leave but with a gleam in her eye that would make Carly proud, Joss told her to wait as she had something to give her.
Rather than bolt, Nina decided to stay and accept the lumps that Josslyn was more than ready to deliver. Kudos must also go to Watros, the definition of a giving actor, who played contrite during Joss’s tirade. Not only did Nina allow Josslyn to let her have it but Watros played the perfect scene partner to McCoy, supporting her throughout every moment as Nina expressed her regret while knowing it wasn’t likely going to make a difference.
Joss presented Nina with a journal cover and separate diary that she’d given her as a graduation present so that she could write down her feelings. Feelings, Joss pointed out that wouldn’t have been necessary to process had Nina been truthful.
As Joss recounted all the times she wrote in her journal, she tore a page out of it. She told Nina she not only lied to Sonny’s family but to Joss’s dad Jax (Ingo Rademacher), too. The journal cover became separated from the torn pages and fell to the floor. Clutching the torn notes, Joss picked up the journal cover and handed it back to Nina, who gingerly took it back into her hands. “I’ll be keeping my thoughts but this gift from you?” said Eden McCoy’s Josslyn. “I never want to see it or you again.”
Joss’s words impressed upon Nina just how much of an impact her decision to remain quiet about Sonny has had on people in her life. McCoy’s performance did more than leave Nina speechless; it left GH viewers wanting to see more from this talented young lady. The show gave us a nice tag, whetting our appetites for more from Eden McCoy as Joss came upon an emotional Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) cozying up to her boyfriend Cameron (William Lipton).
