Soap Hub Performer of the Week For GH: Amanda Setton

Doing the right thing and being selfless are not attributes one would use to describe Brook Lynn Quartermaine in the past, but she had to do all of that, and more, when she gave the child she loves back to her family. For breaking our hearts in the process, Soap Hub is bestowing Performer of the Week for General Hospital honors on her portrayer, Amanda Setton.

Amanda Setton — Performer of the Week

It was hard for Brook Lynn to tell the truth about “her” daughter’s true parentage to those closest to her, but in doing so, she won over some of her harshest critics, people like her father Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) and Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart). She thought that was the hard part. That was a piece of cake compared to actually letting the little girl return to her true family — Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) and Mac Scorpio (John J. York). Setton showed her character’s dilemma in heartbreaking detail.

BLQ truly fell in love with being a mom to Bailey/Louise and while she was faking it, she ended up being more of a mother than she ever thought possible — growing up a great deal in the process. The experience opened her up to life’s possibilities, including a possible love connection with her fellow fake parent, Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard), as he too saw her growth and has come to admire the woman she’s become.

Amanda Setton shines as Brook Lynn looks at Chase as someone she could truly fall for and that vulnerability has truly endeared her to fans more and more. Their pairing has captured hearts but as sweet and happy as that was, her turning the baby over to Felicia this week crushed them. The pain on BLQ’s face was palpable but she knew she had to do it, though that didn’t make it any easier.

When she realized she forgot to include Bailey’s favorite toy, she felt like an utter failure. What parent watching at home couldn’t relate to that feeling? Setton was able to bring all the truth to that moment in heartbreaking detail. She sought solace in Chase’s waiting arms, and they almost kissed! They were interrupted for the best possible reason.

The joy all over her face when Felicia returned the baby was enough to make even those cold-hearted souls watching feel warm and fuzzy. Kudos to Amanda Setton for a tour-de-force performance that took viewers from one side of the emotional spectrum to the other. She gave us all the feels and then some.
