With all the marital strife, manipulation, and mob drama permeating Port Charles, viewers were in dire need of something lighthearted…a reason to smile and have a laugh or two. Luckily, the soap’s writers have given them one with the pairing of Scott Baldwin and Liesl Obrecht, the fun couple who are lighting up General Hospital.
General Hospital: Oh What A Night
From the moment the pair unexpectedly woke up in bed together at the Metro Court hotel, viewers knew they were in for a treat. Teaming the crusty double-dealing Scott (Kin Shriner) with the sinister beguiling Liesl (Kathleen Gati) was a twist of genius. They’re truly two of a kind. Both characters are conniving and duplicitous, yet extremely witty. And they possess a flair for comedy that can diffuse any situation.
Let the Banter Begin
The fun and frolic in store for viewers was obvious from the get-go. Who can forget the pair’s playful banter the morning after their lovers’ tryst as they tried to decipher each other’s feelings about what had transpired between them? Finally, Liesl worked up the courage to ask Scott if he regretted their night of passion. “Nein,” retorted Scott in Liesl’s native German tongue, while flashing a great big grin across his face. From there they were off and running; General Hospital’s best new couple you never saw coming.
Scott Baldwin and Liesl Obrecht – Uniquely Themselves
Let’s not forget what initially bonded them — their profound love for his late son, Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth). So Scott and Liesl don’t fit any of the classic soap opera couple molds. In fact, it’s hard to even think of a daytime pair from the past to compare them to. But maybe that’s what makes them so appealing. They’re totally and uniquely themselves; two mischievous unapologetic people who are perfectly content doing their own thing, no matter what anyone else thinks.
Under the direction of consummate veteran actors Kin Shriner and Kathleen Gati, the twosome are sure to thrive for a long time. And that is very good news for GH fans, who’ll have something to smile about for a long time, too.
