General Hospital often goes out of its way to take characters you should hate and make them lovable. And vice-versa. It can be confusing.

So we decided to simplify things. We asked over 3,000 viewers who the most hated person in Port Charles is. Here’s what they said.
GH: Mommy Dearest
From the way Curtis (Donnell Turner) is acting, you would think that Portia (Brook Kerr) is the worst who ever worsted. Yet, only 2% of fans agree. Sure, she lied about her daughter’s paternity. But in a town with mobsters and Cassadines, Portia barely rates.
There’s No Business Like Carly Business
Sure, Carly (Laura Wright) believes every decision that gets made in Port Charles should run through her. But, in the end, she really has very little effect on anything. Even her keeping the secret about Nina (Cynthia Watros) being Willow’s (Katelyn MacMullen) didn’t change Willow’s prognosis, as Nina didn’t prove to be a bone marrow donor match. So Carly acts like she’s important. But she really isn’t. Which is why a mere 11% think she’s worth hating on.

General Hospital: Bad Mom
Who cares if Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) really has amnesia? There are still 41% of the audience who remember every terrible thing she ever did, whether it was under Ryan’s (Jon Lindstrom) influence or of her own volition. She is hateful to you because she is obviously a hateful person. Sure, she started off with the disadvantage of having lunatics as parents. But she still made her own choices in the end.
GH Will Never Forget
Nina kept Sonny (Maurice Benard) from Carly. And there is no worse sin than that, according to a winning 46%. We hate her for that. And for being Willow’s mother. She only did it to upset Carly. We also hate her for offering her hotel for the Nurses Ball when Carly was sure she wouldn’t and for daring to want a relationship with either of her children. That last one, in particular, was beyond the pale.
