Look, we know most soaps aren’t currently able to film new episodes (save The Bold and the Beautiful — and the other soaps have set plans to go back). But don’t you think that, when they come back, the one show with an actual medical setting in its title (yes, we mean General Hospital, it hasn’t been retitled As the Mob Turns yet) should address the medical issue that has affected the life of every single American?
Why not bring COVID 19 to Port Charles. Just think of the dramatic possibilities! Mike (Max Gail) is in a New York state nursing home, right? That means, odds are, he’d be in one of the ones that real-life Governor Andrew Cuomo ordered to accept contagious patients.
Sonny (Maurice Benard) gets mad when someone gives his family the stink-eye from across the room. How would he feel if a politician’s order actually killed his old man? Should Jason (Steve Burton) be packing for a “business” trip to Albany?
What if General Hospital were under lockdown, trapping people who otherwise can’t stand each other in the same place for an indefinite period of time?
Liz (Rebecca Herbst) could end up quarantined with… we don’t know… Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)! She loves bad boys who have a sad story about why they became bad and how all they need is a woman’s love to set them on the straight and narrow again. It’s a match made in heaven!
What if Nelle (Chloe Lanier) is visiting Wiley, and she’s stuck having to live with all the Quartermaines? And so is her husband, Julian (William deVry)! Talk about wacky housemates!
Finally, soaps are all about keeping two people who want to have sex with each other away from each other for as long as possible. What’s a better excuse than sheltering in place? It sure beats the old… I overheard something and completely misconstrued it defense. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
