As previously reported, Marcus Coloma is out as Nikolas on General Hospital. The actor is set to make his last appearance as the Cassadine heir in January. Now, new information is being reported about Coloma’s departure from the ABC soap opera.
Deadline is reporting that Coloma and ABC came to an agreement “that he should not film the remaining few days of the year” following “health issues with his recent Covid exposure” that resulted in Nikolas recently being temporarily recast with Adam Huss. Coloma debuted on GH on October 31, 2019.
Deadline also reported that a GH rep shot down the rumors that Coloma was fired and left the studio before shooting his final scenes. The actor had a three-year deal with GH which was fulfilled this year.
Coloma is sharing in a letter his thoughts on GH and the impact being on the show has had on his life. The statement, courtesy of his spokesperson, reads:
Dear Friends and Fans of Marcus Coloma,
As mentioned in a statement provided by ABC, we wanted to confirm that Marcus “will no longer be playing the role of Nikolas Cassadine. His last airdate will be at the end of January.” Marcus has wrapped his 3-year contract with General Hospital and has thoroughly enjoyed working on the show with such a talented group of actors, writers, producers and directors. Unfortunately, due to health issues with his recent Covid exposure, the network graciously agreed that he should not film the remaining few days of the year.
Marcus has been thrilled to bring nearly 300 episodes of the iconic and complicated character of Nikolas back to life. “I was immediately taken with the family feel of the ensemble cast,” said Coloma. “And I fell in love with the extremely passionate fanbase. Their outpouring of love and excitement, week after week has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I will always be grateful for their kindness and support.”
Coloma’s cast members have been posting on social media their reaction to the actor’s departure from Port Charles. “I’ve had many close, friends leave General Hospital,” tweeted Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos). “Of course it’s always sad, and sometimes confusing, I believe when you’re talented it’s always a blessing in disguise. I always call @marcuscoloma the filmmaker!!! Go kick ass buddy.”
“This one hurts… Will miss you @marcuscoloma ♥️,” posted Finola Hughes (Anna Devane). There’s no word yet on whether or not the part of Nikolas will be recast either temporarily so the character’s exit can be facilitated or on a more permanent basis.
