Everyone wants to know when the secret of Nina Reeves being Willow Tait’s birth mother is coming out but even more, how will Nina react to this explosive General Hospital secret? Actress Cynthia Watros recently addressed this very subject.
Cynthia Watros Knows What She Wants
During a General Hospital Fantasy Events Zoom with Watros and co-star Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin), one attendee, Ellen, asked how she thought Nina would react once she learns the truth about the young girl who has become an enemy of hers.
“The writers really are building up this tension right now between Nina and Willow [Katelyn MacMullen],” she admitted before adding with a laugh, “I have to say, Katie is one of the nicest people in the world. It is so difficult to yell at her all the time. I mean, I just yell at her and then give her a hug afterward, and I’m like, ‘I’m so sorry.'”
While the actresses get along splendidly, that doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy their characters experiencing conflict. “I think because she has this really gaping hole of emptiness where she really believes that she’ll never be a mother…once it really settles in — and I don’t know anything, I haven’t talked to the writers, this is me just thinking of what it would be like for Nina — once it settles in, and it won’t take long to settle in, when she really believes that Willow is her daughter, she would give her life for this person.
“Remember when Nelle [Chloe Lanier] came back for a little bit, I was so happy to see her because Nina needed that,” she said emphatically. “And it wasn’t written for Nina to grab Nelle and hug her. And so when we were rehearsing the scenes and Nelle was there…Chloe…and I would say, ‘I think if she was that close, I’d grab her’ and I want to just be ‘my girl — this is my daughter,’ and I think that Nina just wants her child so bad that no matter what…because she has a blind spot, you know with everything that Nelle did, she does have a blind spot.
“Like I think a lot of parents…hopefully, parents don’t have to deal with a child who’s killing people,” remarked Cynthia Watros, a bit tongue-in-cheek considering Nelle’s larcenous Port Charles past, “but I think parents have blind spots a lot of times with their children, and I think whatever past stuff she had with Willow, it’s just about her protecting, loving, caring, wanting to be her mother. I don’t know how she’s going to take it, but it’s going to be an enormous thing for Nina.”
