Up until recently, General Hospital’s Drew was the nicest guy around, until PTSD from his recent prison stint sent him over to the dark side. For some reason, the show started dressing him like the Frankenstein monster as he craved vengeance on Nina, whom he blames for all his troubles.
Those who are familiar with the 1931 classic horror film, Frankenstein, no doubt recall his wardrobe: dark dress pants, a dark t-shirt, and a dark blazer. This ensemble has been used throughout the years on various iterations of the creature and has become his iconic look. On GH, as Drew (Cameron Mathison) has been seething with rage against Nina (Cynthia Watros) – who turned him and Carly (Laura Wright) into the SEC for insider trading – his look has also changed.
Surprisingly dressed like the iconic monster, who was stitched together from mismatched body parts, Drew recently sported dark pants, t-shirt, and blazer for quite a few episodes, making us envision he’s saying, “Drew not like!!” when he looks at Nina. It’s well within the realm of possibility that the show’s wardrobe designers did that on purpose, given the fact that Drew was something of a lab rat in the past. His brother Jason’s (Steve Burton) memories had been implanted in him, so he believed that he was the true Jason for a time. He had also undergone brainwashing to become the ultimate assassin. All of that, coupled with being beaten within an inch of his life in prison could explain a subtle nod to the iconic monster, perhaps illustrating on the outside all of the pain he’s feeling on the inside. (Check out why Drew went to prison.)
With mad scientists mucking about in his head, it’s no wonder that Drew went from absolutely despising Nina to having hate sex with her. Of course, leading up to that head-scratching scene, he was wearing a button-down shirt…presumably so it could be more easily taken off for a roll on the office floor. After they did the deed, it’s surprising he didn’t change his tune to, “Drew LIKE!!”
It appears that the writers have either completely forgotten about Drew’s memory mapping, or chose to ignore it, but either way it’s frustrating for viewers who haven’t forgotten. Having Jason’s memories would easily explain why Drew got together with Carly in the first place, with all those lingering feelings.
But now they’re kaput and the ramifications of sleeping with Nina will affect her unlikely ability to get back together with her estranged husband Sonny (Maurice Benard), who doesn’t seem like he’d even forgive a waiter for forgetting the cheese on his cheeseburger lately. Perhaps Dr. Rolfe (Richard Wharton) from Days of Our Lives could pay a visit to Port Charles to set Drew straight again.
